Morris & Smith Win Mossy Oak Fishing Bassmaster High School Series National Championship

Mossy Oak Bassmaster High School winners 2018

As title sponsor of the Bassmaster High School Series and official pattern of B.A.S.S., Mossy Oak Fishing is thrilled to congratulate Grayson Morris and Tucker Smith on winning the 2018 Mossy Oak Fishing Bassmaster High School Series National Championship presented by DICK’s Sporting Goods.

This tournament took place on Kentucky Lake and the anglers took out from Paris Landing State Park in Paris, Tennessee, each day.  There were a total of 337 high school teams comprised of 670 total anglers from all parts of the USA, in addition to anglers from Canada and Zimbabwe that all had to qualify to fish the National Championship.

Fishing out of Birmingham, Alabama for Briarwood Christian High School, Morris and Smith finished the three-day tournament with a total weight of 50 pounds, 2 ounces.

“Catching a big fish each day gave us the momentum we needed to go into the next day with full confidence in our plan,” said Smith a 16-year-old junior.  Morris added, “While we did miss a few fish throughout the tournament, we had a great time at this tournament. We stuck to our plan each day and had fun with it. Talking with other anglers and cracking jokes all day, every day, made this an incredible tournament for us.”

Russell was the coach and boat captain for the anglers.  The former Briarwood Christian angler commented, “These boys did an incredible job the last three days. They were super consistent in sticking to their plan and finished very strong by weighing their best day’s tournament bag in on day three.”

“It’s an honor to play a role in this tremendous program for young anglers at the high school level,” said Ben Maki, Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer of Mossy Oak. “We’re proud of all the competitors, pursuing their outdoors passion and learning through the experience.”

Mossy Oak Fishing is also supporting sponsor of the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series. Mossy Oak entered the fishing arena with its launch of Elements Agua last year. Elements Agua provides outdoors men and women with a pattern all their own, one that represents a lifestyle on the water that they love.
