More Than 1,300 Acres Added to Georgia's Oconee WMA

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Wildlife Resources Division is excited to announce the addition of more than 1,390 acres, made up of three tracts of land, to the already 4,800-acre Oconee Wildlife Management Area in Greene and Hancock counties. These new tracts enhance the Oconee WMA by increasing the availability of public land for hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts.

RMEF to Bolster Conservation Leaders for Tomorrow Program

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation formed a partnership with the Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation to expand and help fund Conservation Leaders for Tomorrow (CLfT), an established program designed to educate wildlife professionals who do not hunt with an understanding about the important roles of hunting and its impact on conservation.

Mosquito Fern: A Small Floating Red Plant in Your Pond

Mosquito fern is not often a problem in ponds, but it can become a problem in some wind-sheltered areas. If you see a small, red, floating plant on your pond, you will know what it is. It can be controlled by contact herbicides containing Diquat or other herbicides that are absorbed from the water. Check with your biologist or a certified aquatic applicator for treatment options.

Fisherman love to fish around structure, particularly structure that is visible such as stumps, blown down trees and grass beds. Aquatic vegetation in the form of grass beds can sometimes go from being the fisherman’s friend by providing cover to harming the fishery by almost completely taking over the lake.
