    British Labrador Training Designations

    We have three levels of training – started, finished and hunted dogs. A started dog is trained to basic obedience commands – sit, stay, heel and back. A finished dog will get all the training that a started dog is taught, plus, he’ll be able to respond to hand signals and make blind retrieves. A hunted dog will be able to do everything that the started and the finished dogs can do, but a hunted dog actually will go hunting with you and perform what he's learned under hunting conditions.

    When the Hunter and the Dog Become One

    We have a waiting list of people who want one of the pups we breed here at Mossy Oak’s GameKeeper Kennels. I'm often asked, “How many pups can Mossy Oak produce in a year?” We’re not about production. We don’t breed our females until they’re 2-3 years old. So, we've got a lot of young females that will come into our breeding program in the next several years. Right now, we only have four females we’re actively breeding. We won’t produce more than three litters of pups per female, depending on the health of the female.
