Straight from the Horse’s Mouth with Mossy Oak Pro Staffer of the Year Bill Lewis

I joined the Mossy Oak Pro Staff in the early 2000s before Tim Anderson came on board and created the new Mossy Oak Pro Staff, and I've been working with Mossy Oak ever since then. I do everything I can to help carry the message of Mossy Oak to people who hunt, fish and hike in the outdoors, but also to people who want to know more about the outdoors and outdoor sports. I volunteer to teach bowhunter education. I work actively with the archery-mentoring program sponsored by the State of Nebraska.

Mossy Oak Regional Manager D.J. Randolph Explains His Nomination of Bill Lewis

One of the main reasons that I nominated Bill Lewis of Omaha, Nebraska, for the 2016 Mossy Oak ProStaffer of the Year award is because he attends, speaks and represents Mossy Oak at many more events than we ask our Mossy Oak pros to attend. Bill is not someone who tries to do the least amount of work that he can to stay on the ProStaff. Bill goes above and beyond what’s expected of a Mossy Oak ProStaffer.

Bill Lewis: Mossy Oak ProStaffer of the Year

Many of us have learned that the quickest way to get from where we are to where we want to be is to find someone who already has achieved what we hope to achieve and do what they’ve done. One of the most-coveted positions in all the outdoor industry is being a Mossy Oak ProStaffer. This year, Tim Anderson, director of the Mossy Oak ProStaff, has created a new position – Mossy Oak ProStaffer of the Year. The first recipient is Bill Lewis of Omaha, Nebraska. This week we’ll learn why the Mossy Oak ProStaffer of the Year title has been created, what’s required to be the Mossy Oak ProStaffer of the Year, and what the Mossy Oak ProStaffer of the Year wins. The title, Mossy Oak ProStaffer of the Year, is the highest award Mossy Oak can bestow on a member of its ProStaff team.

What Happens at Honey Brake Lodge after Limiting Out on Ducks

Another question I'm often asked when people are considering hunting with us at Honey Brake is, “What can we do if we have taken our limit of ducks before 9 or 10?” Guests who want to can shoot sporting clays; or, you can do an upgrade and hunt wild hogs; or, you can go fishing in Larto Lake. Our lodge is on beautiful Larto Lake, part of the Larto-Saline Complex. Lake Larto is rated the number-5 crappie lake in the nation, and it homes plenty of big, beautiful, speckled-side crappie. We do bass trips, but most of the time, our guests want to fish with one or more of their buddies. So, although bass fishing is available, most of our guests prefer to crappie fish. Our four sporting clay courses have 15 stands, and a Duck Flush stand (a clay-target shooting game).

What Are Yo-Yo Ducks and Gumbo Mud at Honey Brake Lodge

At the first of this 2016 season, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service folks came in and did their annual duck count. They were very excited. They said that Louisiana was holding more ducks statewide than the state ever had had since 1910. Their count was more than 3-million ducks in Louisiana for the first week of duck season.
