Hi guys, long time no see. I was finally able to pick up my bird at the taxidermist this past Saturday and wanted to share with you all.
The bird I shot last year was what will probably be my "bird of a lifetime", so I wanted to do something special to remember it by. I decided to have him mounted to look like he is gobbling on a limb. He was 25 lbs, an 11" beard, and 35mm spurs. One "tough old bird".
The morning of the hunt, he was roosted just inside the woods near a big field on the farm I was hunting, and stood on the limb gobbling for over 45 minutes before finally flying down. Instead of flying into the field and making for an easy hunt for me, he flew into the woods and henned up immediately. Long story short, a couple of hours later I killed him by stalking into the woods and sneaking within gun range.
Here are a couple of pics from the day of the kill.

Here he is now on the wall of my man cave.

I couldn't be happier about the great job the taxidermist did with him. I'm also pumped about the upcoming season which starts 4/21 here. If I'm lucky enough to get a bird this year, he's going into my new smoker instead of to the taxidermist.
