I had about 5 good batteries out in the shed and I try to keep them charged.

All different types of battery's, but most of them were bought at the local Advance Auto Parts store. One is a Sears Die Hard.

I had a 1000 amp Douglas dual post battery on the shelf that is about 7 years old, but doesn't have 100 hours on it. Like all the rest of the batteries, I use it from time to time and I try to keep it charged. I also have a race car trailer and I use it sometimes to run the winch.
We had some nights over the past month where it got down below zero at night and now I figured before the next big storm came along I would go out and check on them.
There is no heat out in the garage.

Well I went out in the garage tonight and I found a old rectangle headlight and I took a screw driver and I shorted out the batteries to see which ones would burn the bulb. All but the Douglas still worked. The sides of the battery were all swollen out like a last years prom date and I threw it out on the pile for the junkman.

Two of them I put on the slow charger - just to maintain them over night. I put jumper cables on two of the batteries and I hooked it up to the battery charger on 2 amps. One was a little brighter then the other with the headlight.
I was just wondering how many of you bothered to take their batteries out of their boats and their trailers and how many of you keep your batteries charged and how do you keep them charged and how often do you check on them?

I feel really bad about the Douglas battery because it was my best battery for the race car and the winch and now it is ruined and I never really had a chance to get much use out of it.
