I am sure this has been asked 1 million times but I am getting ready to purchase a rifle to start my deer hunting career.

A. I used a 270 WSM and really liked it.

B. I have been told I should get a 300 WSM.

C. Is a .308 more practical? (This will be less expensive to shoot)

D. What about a Rem 7MM?

I think a Remington 700ADL

Thanks and look forward to the info.

I agree, shoot what you like and prefer. As for me, my 7mm will always be my choice.

My cousin shoots a 300 browning short mag. I have seen whats left of the deer he's shot and it ain't much. I have a browning 7mm and I love it, all the deer I have shot exept 1 I have dropped in it's tracks. I have shot 6 deer with it and the one that run only got about 30 yards. It really knocks them down and the damage is'nt too bad. I shot a 30/30 before this, talk about night and day

I have shot multiple calibers and to be honest with ya I like my mauser 98. Its actually the old german rifle that was used in WW2. Tell ya what ammo for it in remington is really expensive but found russian ammo works really good out of it! I spend $15 to $18 dollars a box now compared to remingtons cost of like $32 a box. But I would go with what ever caliber u like the most. 7MM is a good choice if ya like that. 270 is good aswell.

I shoot a Browning 7mm-08. It will kill anything in Penssylvania no problem. It shots flatter than a 308, and hits just as hard. Shot placement rules above all, dont get caught in the magnum madness!!

Deer are not hard to kill, people shoots them all the time with nothing more then a .22 rifle.

I would suggest that you just stick with what you already have. One magnum caliber is not always better then the next.

The selection of bullets and the construction of the bullet plays a bigger part in how it works.
Looking at bullet sectional density, the .270 with a 150 gr bullet has a bigger sectional density then does a .308 bullet of the same weight.

Anything from a 25/06 to .308 Winchester will do a good job of killing even the largest white tail deer. You do not need a magnum. I have a .270 WSM - Browning A Bolt rifle and the last doe I shot at 50 yards, I didn't even need to gut it out because it blew a hole in that doe big enough to throw a cat through.

We just picked it up by it's head and tail and shook it out like a rabbit.

The doe I shot before that, it almost blew the neck clean off the deer and the deer weighed about 150 lbs. Not a good thing when you are hunting for antlers or meat.

I have been told that a .243 is plenty rifle enough to shoot a deer. I personally would opt for a .270, maybe save a few dollars over a .300 or .308 to throw for a nice scope

My Remington 700SS 30.06 is a tack driver. I've never had a deer run off after shooting one.

I also use Hornady ammo and a goof Leupold Scope to seal the deal.
