I have a climbing treestand. How much of an angle should I put it on the tree? I don't want to be 15-20 feet up in a tree and it be leaning to far forward or backward. Thanks!

depends on the tree.. set in on the tree, guesstimate the angle needed, climb the tree, make changes as necessary

The proper angle is hard to judge. You have to look at how much the tree tapers. It takes some practice to get it right. Do not try to adjust your stand after you climb up. Go back down and make the adjustment. I know 2 people that have fallen and were seriously injured trying to adjust their stand up the tree.

You'll probably find that if the tree has a moderate taper, you start out with a pretty good angle on your platform and seat. As you go up, it will become more level. On more than 1 occasion I have had to put up with a platform that was sloping up or down because I didn't estimate things right and I didn't want to have to climb back down to fix it. Bottom line is that if it feels unsafe, you need to go back down the tree, adjust things and try again.

With experience you'll get better at judging the angle. Even so they'll be those times when you get it off some. Sometimes tree taper can look deceiving or have a bulge that didn't look so bad from the ground.

The easiest way is to get it set up on the tree you plan to use before hand so you know where it needs to be set. It takes an extra trip up and down sometimes, but being comfortable and safe is the main thing!
