So I finally got a chance to scout for my archery Antelope hunt which starts August first. I am hunting a wilderness area which has limited vehicle access through the area. This area is about 150 miles north of here and I only had a day, so it was going to be a quick drive through the area I had been thinking about, checking for springs and other water and hope to glass a few moving through the area. Well, not only did I find a few animals, I ended up finding 8 California Bighorn sheep in the area, which was a surprise, along with what I think was about 80 Antelope , a few of which were nioce bucks.

My season is looking good!!!

Well, went hunting finally on Friday morning and when I got to my area, where I had seen as many as 80 Antelope and numerous nice bucks, was I in for a shock. I was unable to find any of the animals I had seen in my scouting trips, or any animals with any possibility of putting a stalk on. I watched all of the springs for any activity but nothing except for the wild horses, which had been in the area on my previous trips up. The only thing I could figure is the horses had torn up the springs so bad, the antelope had moved out.

To add insult to injury, I ended up injuring my foot working through the rocks trying to check several other areas. I then decided to break camp and try to find another area and ended up ripping the skid plate off my truck and the area I hunt is no place to try to go anywhere without this vital piece of equipment.

Now I know, make sure to scout numerous areas so you have several backup plans!!

I will have to wait til next time to get my antelope!
