My buddie and I went hunting the day before the season went out and he had to be back at his house at 8:30 AM, not to mention I had a final exam at 1:00 that afternoon. We set on a grass field on a gobbler that didnt show, then we went walking a calling for a while and found two strutters in the middle of a field. We crawled up to the edge of the field and started some light calling. They hung up at about 150 yards for close to 45 minutes, it was about 8:00 by that time. Without a decoy, we realized that was why the old boys were stopping for, we stopped calling and waited them out, about 10 minutes later they started to head our way. There was a slight dip in the field and we lost sight of the birds until they were right on top of us, my buddie shot first and killed an 18 1/2 pounder with an 11" beard and 1 1/8" spurs(left). And i shot second and killed a 23 pounder with an 11" beard and 1 1/16" spurs(right). needless to say, we were alittle late getting back, but it was well worth it.
