| I preserved a turkeys leg and spurs by putting it in a standing position holding it by nails or what ever you have to keep it the way you want to preserve it. Than what I tried was a clear outdoor wood sealer and brushed it on, then let it dry and put another coat on then let dry for a couple of days making sure that the turkeys legs and feet are held in the position you what it. This is what I did and its been three years now and it still has the same color and its in the same position I dried it in with no smell.

I dried mine in the upright position lightly tied to a couple of 1 x 2 strips that I n put into a frame and then put drying compound at the cut end of the leg to dry them out. They look great.
