| I'd just like for some input on some good, high-tech, durable GPS Systems. Please feel free to post brands and products, prices, company to buy from.

As far as GPS's go, you definitly want to start with what you want it to do. DO you want it to hold downloadable maps, TOPO maps, etc, do you want turn by turn directions on streets. There are tons of GPS out there that just add more and more capabilities, but also there is more and more to go wrong. Also, every company has their own mapping software where you can transfer info between your computer and your GPS such as maps, waypoints and routes. The last thing is price, I have seen them range from $100 to $600+.
Personally, I have been using Garmin GPS's for the last 7 years or so. I currently use two different ones, a Oregon 300 and a Foretrex 100(I think). The Oregon does everything you good think of, Topo maps, weather, turn by turn on road. The foretrex is a small wrist mount that I have on my wrist from the time I leave home till I get back home if I am hunting or hiking. Both of these have worked great for me. I have also used various eTrex models and was very happy with them as well.
As far as my background, obviously I am an avid hunter here in Nevada, but I also do search and rescue (northern Nevada and northeastern California) and Hike.
For some good resources on GPS's take a look at hunting mags, but also Outside and Backpacker, the magazines have great info

| I am using a Garmin eTrex Legend, it's my second one as my first one was stolen. Years back I had a couple different Magellan units. The Garmin does everything I need, I store my locations on my computer using some software from MapSource which makes life simple when your fist unit is ripped off and you have to replace it.

My Old Magellan Gold works well today as it did years ago when I first got it. You may want to check out eBay on some used ones. They may not have all the bells & whistles but they are still usable.

Good to know. I've been looking at the Garmin eTrex as my first GPS. All I want to do is find my stand and get back to the vehicle if I get turned around.

I have the Garmin Rino, they have different models with different functions and the thing I like is it has a 2 way radio. If your friend has one you can talk up to 5 miles away and it also track them. You could actually fallow a trail right to where they are. Pretty fun.
