not sure what state you live in but i the rut in new york state starts around the same as yours i alwas start rattling the last week in oct i have killed to nice bucks doing this. one was on the 29th and the other was on holloween. get up close to some thick cover where the deer hangout and give it a try i dont rattle real agressive more like to small bucks fighting seems do bring the big boys out to run them off. dont forget to use a few grunts when your doing it.

Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!

Deer can and will spar and grunt pretty much year round.I usually wait until mid oct to grunt and late oct to rattle.I like to just sit and watch early season.

Sound advice....I agree 100 percent...

However... 3 years ago, opening day was 10/15, and it was unusually cold..I watched a decent 8 nudging does all morning...so i used the Primos Buck roar and grunted, wheezed, and roared at him...aggressivley...and brought him to my tree from 80 yards out...I didnt get a shot, but he was ready to roll!

You have to take each season, each DAY on a case by case basis....

Yeah, every day in the woods can and usually will be different than the one before. If I see a buck and he's not headed toward my stand, and I know he probley won't be I'll throw everything in my bag at him tryin to turn him in my direction regardless of time of year.
