Man, its been a long few days. I've been up to my ears with work, the farm and kids. I've been hunting a bit but not enough...I hope to change that this week, less work and more hunting!

Anyway, I thought I'd share some more pics and tell one little story. First the pics.

Even my wife said I need to take a real camera with me...

this is the other day, just my set up...

Here's where they get good...the start of the sun coming over Alander Mountain...

Me taking in the sun!

This is what I saw when I walked into the open field, I am overlooking the valley where my house is, can't see anything but fog, I thought it was pretty cool so I took these.

OK, now for the story...

You see the pic above, me sitting up against the tree...well I got to that tree around 4:30am, still very dark, cloud cover and all...As I get settled in I doze off a bit and I'm just waiting for light....then I hear it. Footsteps...deliberate footsteps, getting closer and closer. Not just two legs, 4. Then more footsteps. I can't tell you how close these footsteps started to sound...at this point I'm thinking a deer, but as there are more and more I wonder...could it be a bear and her cubs, could it be a bunch of yotes, no worries I have a gun...then I hear the inhale and exhale of whatever this is...louder and louder, even closer...I don't move cause I don't want to bust whatever it is and scare the turkeys roosted not too far away.

I turn my head ever so slightly and I hear more inhale and exhale, almost feel it down my back...I see a black shadow, something is move VERY CLOSE!!! Finally I look to my left, I can't take it anymore, I'M FREEKIN out here!! There is a fat ole mamma doe no mre than 5 feet away...looking right at me, inhale and exhale...then she moves into the field a bit and here come 2 more...GOOD LORD don't do that to me!!!

I have NEVER been so freeked out! I've had deer come up that close but in DAYLIGHT and I knew they were coming...

My wife still wonders how I can sit in the dark in the woods...

So, thats my story for the day. Nope didn't kill a turkey that AM either...almost but the stupid bird came in silent and when I broke a stick he busted me and took off... there's a few more days anyway!

I sometimes wonder how people who live in Mt Lion country can get out there before dark.
I would have to wear a suit fo chainmail I think. I'd at least work off a few pounds.

Nice pictures.

you have permission to hunt the island in the middle of the fog? ... .. ... ..

seems like they would be everywhere in those pics, ,, seems like wherever you expect them, they are always where you dont expect them, gets frustrating

That island in the middle of the fog is the neighbors place...our land in the valley goes right up to it. Loads of critters down there too.

HTH, sorry man but I think I'm going after your tom in that field...he was in the field this AM and he's lookin to be a nice sized bird. Friends from Nebraska are here and I think we're gonna go out in the am...hope he'll video and we'll try to get a shot on him.
