I'm tagged out in Florida. Our season ended yesterday on the 20th but I killed my second bird last Sunday, then I called another one in for a friend of mine on Wednesday. I hunted 13 times total and had gobblers within range on 9 hunts all on public land.

The story behind my calls

I called this bird I named "The Genius" in for a friend of mine with less than a week to go in the season. I hunted him for nearly a month, and although he was always talkative, I had never seen him. It took some creativity to fool this wise old tom, and the hunt for him resulted in being my favorite hunt ever, for any game species, even though I wasn't the shooter. It was my friends first kill and it was with the first shot ever-fired from his week old gun. It was a new 870 and he was a Marine, so I had no doubts about the ability of either.

Shot this bird opening morning of this years Colorado spring turkey season. He wasn't the biggest bird in the woods, but as all are a trophy nonetheless. He pitched down with 43 other birds, 28 hens and 15 other gobblers (I had never seen anything of that magnitude). He happened to be the first mature bird that let the hens get him in trouble. I was tagged out at 6:45

Grats on all the nice birds everyone.

I had a great season. Lots of interaction with birds and even had a couple big boys allude me pretty good.

Season ended on the 20th. I ended up just taking this jake. He's nothing to really write home about but he's a great Osceola. He came in with a much bigger bird that I was gonna let my buddy shoot but he waited too long and I had to bust his @$$ (sorry Neal, but you snooze you lose bud...lol). He had about a 6.5" beard but it was really thick and gray. At first inspection, we thought it was an older bird with beard rot due to how thick it was.

A link to the story is here:

Sorry for the crappy pic but it was taken with my cell phone:
