My father and I were talking about booking a trip out there , have any of you guys ever been ?
I don't know if we should go with an outfitter or not [ I've heard it both ways].
I've hunted all over the southeast but I've never been to ND.
This is an obsession , and I thank GOD for it..

Well, I LIVE there, and I can tell you that the hunting is famtastic. As you said, as for a guide, it wouldnt hurt if you don't know the area. It wouldnt hurt the first or second year, but after that and you start to learn the area a bit better, you probably won't need one. What part of the state do you plan on hunting?
cw, the spring hunting is great. This was our groups take one day:

some friends of mine have hunted there , and they were telling me to go to Chase Lake , ND, and I wouldn't need a guide.
you wouldn't be interested in swapping a hunt would you NoDak ??

Tell you what, give me your e-mail and I'll keep it saved. Maybe in a couple years.

Well, I figured e-mail would be a sure-fire way to keep in contact in case something ever happens to the site, or something like that.
But if your sure you'll be around by then, no worries.

I've been up there a couple times, but it's been a few years now. Hoping to go back again soon. (Probably next fall, cuz my brother and I have preference points for SD, so I think we're going there this fall).
We hunted toward the middle of the state between Bismarck and Minot with no guide and did really well.
A few days we were the only ones staying in the hotel that were getting our limits, but we were the only ones doing intense scouting every afternoon to make sure we were on birds the next morning.
Have heard since then that a lot more land is being posted in the McCluskey area...but don't know that for sure, since I haven't been back since.
