saw this topic on another forum and thought it might be something we could debate.IMHO a good club/members are ones whose goals are basically the same.shouldn't be a huge number of members versus acreage.limits should be set accordingly,to be specific as to what the land allows, and not what the law specifies as harvest limits.stands should be shared, and not privatized.all plantings and workday tasks should alloted prior to and scheduled so that each member has an opportunity to participate within there on work schedule. thoughs are just my ideas what are yours.please feel free to add, just don't crap on anothers thoughts.

This is going to a good one!

I'm in favor of having stands private. Just for the purpose, if I've gone out and scouted, planted food plots, let deer walk, kept the preasure down, and then another member that hasn't scouted, that hasn't worked on his own plots much less mine, sits in my stand and mows everything down that walks by. That reason alone is why stands are for each member only. That isn't to say me and a bud were members and he and I both helped each other out fixing up stands and plots that he couldn't hunt my stand, it is those members that don't bother to help out, but the only way you get that is for private stands.

I think the BEST club members are the ones that don't know SQUAT about deer hunting.

& that's second to those that are too busy with honey do lists and work to go hunting...LOL

Regarding the stand issue, yeah that's always the most common squabble of every Hunt Club or lease I've ever been in. Hell, I'm sure if we could go back in time, there were cave men beating each other senseless over the best hunting spot...

I too, think stands should be privatized to some degree. It's hunting another man's land so I think the same courtesy that should be afforded to a land owner applies. Introduce yourself and offer them to hunt your stands, spend a night with your wife, etc....

What it boils down to is GREED.... I can't stand GREEDY PEOPLE and even more, I can't stand GREEDY HUNTERS.... If I've killed 5 deer out of one stand, I'm gonna let my buddy know so he/she can get them one, or someone that hasn't taken a deer. What I've seen dozen of times though is that I'll do this for more than one person, and they end up fighting over the spot/stand. I think the easiest thing is to just live and let live and have an open door policy on stands, and deal with it on a individual basis if someone is abusing that by whatever means.

I don't hunt my club so I'm not real sure, haven't given it much thought...

I'd like to see what everyone has to say incase I ever need to hunt club land!

There's a large tract of land near me that's a "club". I use that term loosely cause I really don't see it as a club. It's more like pay your due and it's a free for all. I guess I'm okay with that. It's large enough to grow some big bucks but many with potential don't live that long. I do look forward to bear hunting it every year, it's been good to me so far.

I called in a few shot chasers last year. ATV's make that all to easy for some.

Not a member of a club. There is just my brother, his son, my son
and myself that hunts my brother's farm. We are rarely all there at
the same time and if we are, there are two man box-stands enough
for us all, especially sense my nephew is only 11 and is not allowed
to sit a stand alone because he is new to hunting.
As far as being a good steward, we all do something to help keep
things in order each time we there: put out corn, maintain clear
shooting lanes, stand maint. etc. Not much need for food plots
during most of the season because there is a mixture of feed corn
and soy beans spread over the open 800 and the wooded 14 is
joining the fields.
Like NH, I'd like to see what others think because you never know
when you could be in a club situation.

jod, that's not an easy question to answer. What it comes down to is what you expect out of the lease. Not only from a game standpoint but you have 4 others hunting on there besides you. You'll need to get along and respect eachothers space and personal property.

You should also try to find out what the management practices are on ajoining properties. That will also play a big part on your success.
