Going to the R-100!

We are leaving tomorrow afternoon heading to Wabash, Indiana...... for Rinehart's R-100 shoot on Saturday and Sunday. Got us some rooms for Fri & Sat nites.

Had a blast last year, and are hitting it again this year. Looking forward to it again.

Anyone else happen to be going to this R-100, in Indiana?

Hey yall, Im new to these forums, and to archery in general.. Ive not been shooting long.. (a week) and I was wondering if there was anywhere in Manatee or sarasota county that a bunch of ppl got together and shoot around.. (FREE ADMISSION??) I was hopin to meet a new friend or two.. Im only 16 and I spent all of my money on a bow and some arrows.. lol matter of fact, the day i brought it home i got a robin hood! woot woot go me! lol so now down to 4 arrows.. lol Just for fun, not real serious.. Its a fun sport, hoping to make acouple friends doing this.. Dont know of anywhere to go other than my backyard.. lol

Last weekend we spent the weekend camping at the R-100 in Palmer Ma. It was Jen and I. Jared (Murphy617) and his Gf Melissa. His friend Tom. Craig and his gf Jen, and Steve. All members of Algonquin Archers. A whole weekend of hanging out with friends, drinking cold beer, eating food, relaxing by the fire, and shooting. It can't get much better!!!!

Friday night we all roled into camp and got set up. Cracked some beers and relaxed by the fire.

Saturday morning we got an early start, but there was a huge backlog on the Safari side. It took us almost 7 hours to shoot 50 targets. It was definitely fun though. We had a group of Ct people behind us, so we had local people to chat with all day.

Saturday night we were all smoked!!! we cooked up some burgers and dogs, and Kielbasa, and I had Venison Chili, and steaks. With all the food, and a few cold ones, none of us lasted very long. I must be getting old...lol

Saturday night around midnight it started to rain, and boy did it ever rain!!! It didn't stop till about 9:30 Sunday morning. We ended up going out to breakfast. If you are ever in the Palmer Ma. area, check out Girly's Grille!! Their breakfast was killer. The portions were huge, and the staff...well.... look at the name of the resturant...lol. The service was top notch.

We got to the club at 11, so we really had to rush through the N.A. side. Cards had to be in at 2:15. We didn't get any pics because we rushed through. The North american side was set up on Necamanseks public 3d course. This has to be the absolute best terrain I have ever shot. I will definitely take the 2 hour drive to shoot one of this clubs regular shoots. We got done at 3, and they barely accepted out cards. I heard at least 50 shooters got booted from the course before they finished. Thats BS!!! :-[ I can see having a cut off for starting the course, but once you are on the course you have no control over the speed of the crowd. Plus the morning rain didn't help.

All in all I had an awesome time. I shot like poo, as did most of us. The course was a lot harder then last years Vt R-100. Good friend, Good food, cold beer, and a relaxing weekend more then made up for the our shooting woes.

Everybody went home Sunday night except for Jen and I. We wanted a night to relax. Virg(Hilltophunter) was camping within view of us. Jen and I got a rare oppurtunity to spend some time around the fire with him and his wife Sunday. Sunday night was the highlight of the weekend. Absolutely nothing to do!!! I truly hope Rinehart has the shoot at this club next year. Was a nice short drive.,a gorgeous campground, and a very organized club hosting the event.

Have to include a few shameless Vortex Optics plugs!!!...

I have always been a big fan of shootin 3D. Still am though of course. But if you have ever heard of a video shoot then youll know what Im talkin about. Yes a video shoot. What this is is a big screen with like a mesh netting over it. You gotta change your field tips out before you shoot to blunt tips so that you dont shoot a hole through the screen. They range, the blunt tips that is, 75 to I think 125 gr tips.

Now there is two different type of programs. One is the techno hunt which I love to shoot. And the other is called the Darton. The techno hunt allows you to veiw your fps, score and where you hit the animal. The Darton system only shows you where you hit the animal and that is it.

Now ifyou are shootin with a friend or by yourself, doesnt matter how, you stand at 20yds and wait for whatever you decide to shoot to come up. Whent it does it is like you are out in the woods huntin and watchin what ever animal you are shootin at. You can tell the guy that has the system how many arrows you want to shoot and after lets say 3 arrows, you go down and pic them up. When the animal is on the screen though its just lke bein in the woods. Poor shot angle, obstruction. The only things is in the woods you dont get timed out. If I remember right its about a minute.

The techno hunt gives you 30 seconds in between shooters to get ready. I have always liked shootin with someone else there because it gets a lil competitive. For a 30 hour where I shoot on the Techno hunt its $7. On the darton system its $4. At least it was the last time I was up. But you will have to find out if you have one in your area. Never tried it? Youll love doin it in the winter when archery is done. Gauranteed!

First 3D of 2009

Today was out first local shoot of 2009. After a few weeks of bitter cold and snow, we had a nice break in the weather today. Woke up to 40 degrees, and sunny. Perfect 3D weather in my book!!! About half way through, it clouded up, and the wind kicked in, and it got chilly. It felt so good to get out shooting after almost 3 months without a shoot.

We all shot fairly well today. I ended up with a 274 for the day, with no nickels. I only dropped 6 points on the first 15, but distance, terrain, and fatigue caught up with me on the hilly second half of the course, and I dropped 20 on the last 15. I was in second place with only one group not checked in. Jen shot a 264, on a pretty tough course. Scott shot a 268 from a tricky pro stake. Jared shot in the 240's or 250's, I can't remember, using my Dren LD which is a little short for him. Mellisa was around 200, after only haven shot a couple courses, and none as tough as this one.

Was a great day today. I'm so glad 3D season is rolling again!!!

Yessir, I got my R-1000 pin from the Rinehart 100 shoot in Wabash, Indiana this past Sunday!

Me, my wife, Steve (indyhunter), and our friend Glen traveled north (2 hrs) on Friday evening. We got checked into a motel and started drinking and fellowship'n. Got up Sat morning around 8am, got some breakfast, and headed to the Saturday shoot. We got there around 10am, and started the North American side of the course (50 targets). Weather was PERFECT! Sunny and 80 degrees with a slight breeze.

We took TONS of pictures, but here are a few of my fav's........

When I turned in my card at 3pm on Sat, I was ranked in 6th place out of 130 shooters that had turned in their score cards for the day.

C.A.A State Championship 3D shoot

Today was the CAA State championship 3D Shoot at Fairfield County Fish and Game club. It was a beautiful day to shoot, and we hit it just right so we were never backlogged more then one group at a target. It was a pretty challenging course. Jen smoked us all, shooting a 328 to win the Womens division, and the 1st place state chamionship trophy. Jared and I tied at 311, which was good for 7 th when we left, but there were still some scores coming in, and i'm sure it won't stand. Mellisa shot a 213 which was very good considering it was only her second 3D, and a much tougher course then her first.

2008 C.A.A. Womens 3D State Champion

Today was the yearly Connecticut Archery Association state Championship shoot at Fairfield County Fish and Game, in Newtown, CT. It was a beautiful day for a shoot, and Jen was on fire! She won the womens division with a 328 thus winning the womens State Championship. Good shooting Babe!!!

3D shoot questions!

Well, there is going to be a small 3D shoot near my hometown and I was wondering just what to expect if I were to sign up. There is a very small entry fee, and I think it would be a fun experience. I am not used to shooting out to 80 yards or anything, so can anyone tell me exactly what to expect if I were to sign up for this? Thanks for any help

Me and my wife shot one of the local shoots a week ago. And we both shot very very well........

But mainly because it was a "marked yardage" shoot. They give ya a cheat sheet with the yardage for each target, but you don't have to take one if you don't want to. Shoot'em straight up as usual if you like. It's just a fun thing they do once a year.

Had a great weekend...nevermind the fact I made the last 25 miles of the trip with my truck on a wrecker!!

my phone/camera didn't like the humid weather and being in my pocket...its all jacked up and doesn't work very well anymore...thank God the web worked and I was able to google a towtruck tonight!

Anyway, I ended up the weekend with a 1059, not the results I was looking for but I'll take it I guess. Had 519 on the North America and 490 on the Safari, with the 50 extra for hunter class is my score. I was 38th out of the 1000 point pin winners, I think there was 80 or so people that made the 1000 points, out of a couple hundred shooters.

Forgot to add a few things...
The steel buck contest ended with a guy robin hooding my arrow...I was out.

Tim also robined Jim's arrow, in the 12 ring!! Heck of a shot!!!!!

Welp, we have decided to make the trip to Wabash, In...... for the Rinehart 100 on Aug 9 & 10th!

It will be me and my wife, Steve (indyhunter), and another friend of ours going together.

We will be driving up on Sat morning and shooting the first 50 targets Saturday, and then staying in a motel Sat night........ and shooting the second 50 targets on Sunday!

I've seen that other members have enjoyed the R-100 in their "local" areas also. And after seeing some of the great pics from them............ I am really looking forward to it!

Well this is it, my last hope for an invite to the World Championship this year.

I will be at the IBO 3rd Leg National Championship this weekend, on the hunt for a coveted invite to Worlds. I need a top 20 finish to secure it.

I'm carrying some good momentum into this weekend, comming off a 25th place finish at the R-100 two weeks ago and two very good outings at local shoots, and should be able to pull it off.

Fathers Day 3D Shoot

In honor of Father's Day, I was going to go to the R100 in Vermnont with my 5 year old - but with Lyme - that was too long of a ride for me, so we stayed local.

It was a good shoot - VERY SLIPPERY out there. Paully - I liked the old loop better, but you cant beat the Grotto!!:tongue:

I finished with a 270, but rushed through a few on the back half since my boy was getting bored....he did good too - finished with a 100! He enjoyed it.

We shot the first half with Dennis and Sue who we met up with at the club, but broke loose so we could pick up thr pace to keep Drew entertained...

Second Leg IBO National championship

June 13 - 15 at Gem City Sportsmanclub near Erie, PA will be the second leg of the IBO National Championship.

Hope to see some of you there, as I will be competing at this event myself.

I'm hoping for a respectable performance at this shoot, as this is my first IBO event since competing seriously in 3D this year.

A buddy of mine is planning on starting a 3d range in Southern Oklahoma. Hoping it will suceed long term and keep people involved. He and I have been talking about it and I've given him some great ideas but we need to know what the people want. It will be a 25 target ASA range. Give me your thoughts................

6/7-6/8 N.E.P.S.G. Traditional Only 3-D shoot

June 6th and 7th Algonquin Archers in Woodbury CT will be hosting the New England Primitive Skills Gathering and Tradtional Only 3-D shoot.

There will be several events on both days including workshops on how to build your own longbow.
There will be a 30 target traditional only 3-D shoot on BOTH days. Kitchen will also be open for breakfast and lunch on both days.

This event is rain or shine is always a good time. Great event to include the family!

Algonquin Archers is located at 35 Quanopaug Trail off of Rt 6 in Woodbury CT. Look for the blinking red light on Rt 6 and that's Quanopaug Trail. Quanopaug Trail will turn into a dirt road. The club is located on the right hand side if you are coming from Rt 6. There are signs on Quanopaug Trail for the club.

Fairfield County F&G 3d. Newtown CT

This coming Sunday is Fairfield County F&G's shoot. The shoot is in Newtown CT, and is off of Exit 11 from I-84.

This is a good shoot. 35 targets, on an absolutely gorgeous piece of property. Always some good chow, and a beautiful club house. Anyone in for early Sunday morning?

Went to an outdoor 3D shoot yesterday and di pretty well.

Finally managed to finish a course without missing a target

Scored a 236/330 which was good enough for 1st place in the Comp Class, first time ever that I have finished higher than 4th place at a shoot
