This is on a different subject but how do you go about getting permission from local farmers to hunt on their land? I have asked many friends if they know of a realtive or someone that has land and to see if I can hunt. I have never just walked up to a residence and asked. Any suggestions?

RE: Trail cam pic...

claw79 (8/17/2009)
I see you use a Wildgame Innovations camera, what model do you have and do you like it? Thinking about getting a few since they are economical.

That's the cheapest one they make...The 1.3 model, like $50 at WalMart. I guess the are decent cameras for $50, far from great but what can you expect for the money. It takes a really good day time picture, the night pictures are a little sketchy at times...It'll take a bunch that look good then the next one will be washed out and you cant tell alot about it. But like I said, it's a $50 camera so you cant expect a ton out of it..Battery life is pretty bad on them though even for a cheap camera, 2 weeks is about the best you'll do out of them and that's with good batteries like Duracells in it. Trigger speed isnt to bad for a cheap camera, I have it on a mineral lick so the pictures are more stationary most of the time..The buck pic posted above was at the lick but the deer wasnt on it, I didnt have any pics of him on the lick...I think he had came from the right and in the pic he's getting ready to cross a fence. One thing I will say for it is the motion sensor during daylight hours has great range...I had it pick up some does that were probably 60yds or so down in the field and take pics of them. I was pretty impressed with that part of it.

As far as the size on this buck..Dont get me wrong, he's a good deer but I'm in Iowa and he's far from being a giant in Iowa. I rarely ever hunt this farm these days, I'll hunt it a little in the early season but that's about it...I have better spots I hunt during the rut. I've seen alot of deer on this farm but not alot of good deer, normaly you'll spot 1 or 2 good bucks on it a year during the rut but they dont tend to stay there, it's a river bottom piece of ground and they cruise through there every once in awhile checking does. I picked up a new farm I'm pumped to hunt this year in southern IA...It's 196 acres of bedding ground. All the farms around it are solid corn for the most part and one I got permission to hunt has the most bedding cover on it. It should be a great farm when the rut heats up.

RE: Trail cam pic...

no doubt! he's a winner!!!

RE: Trail cam pic...

Yeah that would be on my wall if it walked by me....

RE: Trail cam pic...

I see you use a Wildgame Innovations camera, what model do you have and do you like it?
