I heard about that too. That just proves that no matter how close those animals let you get to them, they are still wild.

Great pics on Cade's Cove... Did you guys hear about what happened up there last week?? Some bears attacked a couple of people taking pictures. But I believe the paper said they were trying to feed them..

Cades Cove is truly a beautiful place. I could spend the rest of my days there.. My wife and I visit there often as we are only about an hour or so from The Cove. I have seen some truly phenomenal bucks there. Several yrs. ago we saw a double droptine buck that in my estimation would score around 180/190 and yes there are some BIG rubs and scrapes there. Back when horn rattling became the rage I took a set I borrowed from a friend down there and within about ten min. I had a real nice ten standing in front of me wondering where the intruder was and I did NOT have a camera! it was in the truck! I would like to hunt there just ONCE "but you know where" would have to freeze over first. You can get close to the deer for the most part but they are still wild. You can always tell when there's a bear out there will be a multitude of cars stopped rubberneckin at the critter. I reccomend that anyone that travels thru there take the tour, it will be well worth your time. Word had it that they may release some elk in there. That would be great.

I saw a few bears when I was there a couple of months ago. They weren't near as photo friendly as the deer were. Once you saw them, they took off.

We ran into some bears when I was there back in July of '99.

Another cool thing, that we never saw, but heard at night when we were camping, was wolves howling at night..

From what I've heard since I've been there, is that you need to go late spring and early summer to find the bears out and about. Late December (when I was there), is too late... as they are getting ready to sleep the winter away.

On another forum, a guy posted pictures of 3 bears that he saw there this summer.

Did you run across any Black Bears?

I would see at least one or two every trip but the last two times we went through Cade's Cove I have not seen any. I know for a while the bear population was a problem around public areas but it seems like the numbers (sightings) are way down. That always used to be one of the highlights of the trip.

We usually to go Cade's Cove annually in January but have not been in two years.

Great pics BowBo....livin down in Knoxville me and the family go to Cades Cove a lot...the best way to see the Cove is by Bicycle...Saturday mornings before 10 am are for Bikes only...you can get really close ridin a bike around but ya better be in pretty good shape for some of the hills

I just stopped the car and got out if I wanted to take pictures........ screw 'em!

No body honked or said a word though. I pulled off to the side a lot and would walk around a little. I saw some HUGE rubs too!

The next time I go, I would like to spend the entire day there on foot. I bet you can see so much more if you just get off of that road. Plus I got tired of people getting mad when you would stop the car to take a picture.

Last time I was there we got within about 30 to 40 yards of 4 deer. They are a little tame, but no they are still wild!

Those are better pictures than what I got Ernie, course I had kids with me. Enuff Said.

I'd like to go back one year and spend at least a couple of hours there without hearing "Can we go now?" all day.

Well, I took the advice from a few members on Mossy Oak, and visited Cades Cove while we were on Holiday in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee! I'm really glad we decided to run out there........... it was BEAUTIFUL! And we got to see lots of wildlife too. We probably saw over 30 deer, and 7-8 turkeys.

I was able to make about a 300yd stalk, to get better pics of some deer!

There are deer in this field, you can see a couple if you look close....

And was able to get really close to a couple does....

This looked to be a decent 8 pointer, that had broken off his left side about an inch above the base...
