I wanted to share my autograph "wall of fame" here in my office. If anyone gets the chance to obtain an autographed photo that I do not have, please send me a PM. I am missing a few other OutDoor Channel Hunters that I would love to add to the collection.

Wall of Fame:

Archerrange

I am suppose to be getting the new archerrange range finder in the next few days. I am looking for 3 - 4 corn feeders, tripod or quadpod mounted, with the timer/spreader at least 5 - 6 feet off the ground (so the piggies can't get to it). I'd like a digital timer, minimum 300 lb capacity metal container, and definitely something that can withstand the elements (they will be in the middle of a swamp in S.C.). I've looked at the arkansas duck hunter brand (http://www.arkansasduckhunter.com/deerfeeders.asp), the texas hunter brand (http://store.texashunterproducts.com/350lboldhufe1.html), and the poor boys brand (http://www.poorboysfeeders.com/1134889.html). I set this one up (an Ameristep Doghouse) about 3 years ago and let it out. The sun really took its toll and faded the camo badly, and a storm ripped the roof this summer. The Doghouse was a nice gun blind, but too small for my long arms to draw a bow. At full draw, the bow rested against the front wall and my right elbow touched the back wall. Needless to say I never had any luck out of it.

I took some Christmas money and found this guy on sale at Rural King. They had a big sign that said, Manager's Special 60% off all camo clothing. I got 2-Dream Season Scent Blocker Suits (both pants and jacket) for less than $140.00 each!! The jacket was $70 and the pants was $68. I also bought the under garment Scent Blocker shirt, regular price $99, got it for $30, the $25 baseball style hat for $10.

Temp stability

Just seeing what others think about this. During the cold season do you keep your weapon close to the temperature that you will be hunting in? For example if it's going to be 20 degrees out in the morning do you store your rifle or bow in a place where it's will be close to that temperature overnight?

Does it really matter for accuracy? Do you think it helps controls fogging if it has optics?

I definately keep the smokepole stable to reduce the possibility of sweating. Another thing I've noticed that during the summer if I take a rifle out of the safe and place it directly in a soft case and that sits in the sun for even a short time the item inside will sweat.

Our Newest DEER FEEDER

Romer made this deer feeder for our hunting property........ and did a FINE job!!

I climbed in it to show the size of it....

deer feeders

does anyone have any good ideas on how to make a homemade deer feeder? i have made several out of 4 in PVC pipe to strap to a tree and working on a couple that hang from a tree branch with the funnel attached to the end. here is the directions for the one with the funnel on the end. once i get it made, i'll post some pics.

-PVC pipe, size of your choice
-Funnel with larger diameter than the PVC (FYI, Tractor Supply sells a 12" galvanized funnel that worked great for the 10" PVC)
-One large washer
-Duct tape
-One large screw eye
-PVC end cap
-3 small 2" bolts (size of your choice) and nuts
-2 small 1" wood screws

1. Cut the PVC to the length you need. Mine are about 3' or so long.
2. Notch one end of the PVC with several evenly spaced 1/4" deep notches. On the 4" PVC I used 3 notches, on the 10" PVC I think it was 7. The notches should be about 1 1/2" long and 1/4" deep.
3. On the other end of the PVC pipe, secure the PVC end cap using the 2 wood screws.
4. Install the screw eye into the middle of the PVC end cap so that you can hang the feeder by the screw eye.

This is where it might get confusing!

5. Using a strip of duct tape, wrap the washer so that a tag of tape about 2" long hangs off ONE SIDE of the washer. The washer should look like it has a duct tape tail. With this tag end of tape, tape the washer to the narrow (spout) end of the funnel. If you did this correctly, when the funnel is sat down with the spout pointing up, the washer can sit atop the funnel like a flap, and when you pick up the funnel and point the spout down, it should hinge open like a trap door!
6. Using the bolts and nuts, secure the funnel into the notched end of the PVC with the spout end sticking up inside the PVC.
I have seen everything

I was at Cabela's over lunch. The 16" or so kind. I have a pair but to tell you the truth I'm not satisfied with the feel they give me while walking. If you have to cover some miles they're the last thing I want on my feet. I think it's the lack of support in the sole and you can't really tighen them up around your foot. Now they're great if your heading to sit in a stand. It seems after a good day in the woods with rubber boots my feet are sore. I always go back to a pair of lightweight gortex hikers. My feet just feel so much better at the end of the day.

Does anyone know of a rubber hunting boot that really impressed them and is comfortable if your going to put some miles on that day?

Scent Attractants

I have been stalking Mulies in the Southwest for a few years now and I am going to try an archery hunt from a ground blind this year.

My question is, will a whitetail attractant work on Mulies?
