Beman ICS Hunter Elite. Toughest arrows out there. Beman's owned by Easton. Even though I got a couple of Easton ST Axis bounced off the trees after taking my shots at'em bucks. Didn't have any problems at all. Still shoot straight. Only problem that I have with Easton ST Axis is the HIT inserts are way inside the arrows. If you shoot'em and hit it on the tree, it'll split up real bad. However, with deflections, no problems.

Just talked it over with a buddy of mine at Schaffer Archery Performance at Burnsville, MN with the concerns of hitting impact of arrows on the tree if that happens again. He highly recommends Beman ICS Hunter Elite, looking at $140-160 for a dozen because he have'em and says they're the TOUGHEST arrows around. HMM....am having reservations about that, NYT, on that price. *chuckles* With the economy these days...we all gotta take a chance.[/quote]

I would try the Easton ST Axis FMJ before switching to the Beman ICS. The reason you are having an issue with your prior Axis model is, it's the carbon version of the Axis, so now try the FMJ version and you will not have the problem of a split or shattered tip!
I found this out this spring with my son. I had purchased a Bowtech Tribute with all the bells & whistles from a freind because we thought I was ready to move from the crossbow to the compound after the accident. Turns out the arm still can't handle it, so my son had started to show a great deal of interest in the sport has now taken it and has worked really hard on learning all he can about this great thrill of archery. In that process, he has smached up a lot of those ST Axis arrows that I had gotten with the bow. Now that he has not only some consistancy but some money to pay for some things, he has made the change to the Axis FMJ's and is very happy with the change.

Hunt Hard & Be Safe!

RE: Arrow choice?

I yse the Carbon Express Maxima, and Easton Epic ST. topped with slick trix on the Maxima and G5 Strikers on the Epics. Until a buddy of mine set up both of my brand spanking new Hoyts, to be specific, WB DeadShot @ almost 70 bucks a pop. Told him he was NUTS for making me put up shooting my arrows through WB again. He offered me discount and told me to shoot through first 50 times and see what happens. I did that. It shot great groups. This year at Trophy Ridge, they took the criticism very seriously and took it to another level on the WB design. I've shot my arrows with 2" Blazer Vanes through it. It is MUCH MUCH quieter on this very very improved WB DeadShot. I thought I was LOSING speed by 4-6 FPS from my previous experience.

Here's the twist here, fellas. A buddy of mine who set up my bow tried to experiment Trophy Taker Pronghorn Micro-Adjust, Trophy Ridge DropZone Hunter and Trophy Ridge WB DeadShot before making a decision. He mentionned that only 1 FPS loss on the Trophy Ridge WB DeadShot after showing me the videotape of my bows. I was really surprised and pleased to stick with it. Enough said. Just thought I would share it with y'all fellas from my recent findings by going through my new bows arrow rest set-ups before it was given to me out the door. It is nice to know that my bows were well-taken care of. Otherwise a buddy of mine wouldn't let me take my bows out of his shop if he knows that he didn't do the job right the first time.

RE: Arrow choice?

hamer (2/23/2009)
I actually shoot a WB and I can hold a pretty good group with the 2 inch blazers. The past 2 WB's I've had (sure shot's), have not lasted long at all and tear my 2" blazers up. i guess it's ok for the first 50 arrows, but seems like the whiskers start crossing each other instead of staying straight, causing noise and throws the arrow off. going back to drop away, that trophy taker top load or whatever seems to be doing good...

As far as arrows, i shoot Gold Tip 5575 XT Hunters, and they shoot great

RE: Arrow choice?

I think a nice hardwood footed cedar arrow with 5" sheild cut feathers and a 135 gr Zwickey Delta two blade broadhead. total weight 560 gr. My bow only shoots about 275 with my hunting arrows. The Generals not known for speed. Thinking about getting a new X-force.

NYT, you're right that Bowtech Generals are not known for speed. I had 2007 and 2008 Bowtech Commander. They aren't known for speed either. What Generals and Commanders are well-known for: forgiveness and accuracy. I've been getting 265 FPS on 400 grains arrow on 2007 Commander on 65 lbs draw while I get 280 FPS on 370 grains arrow on 2008 Commander on 65 lbs draw. What we the bowhunters sacrifice: the weight of those bows while bowhunting. I decided to trade up for Hoyt Alpha Max 35 and Hoyt Katera XL. I am still waiting for the order to arrive anytime soon. Once I find out the chorno speed, I'll follow up with you guys.

As for arrow rests, we all have different preferences. I've shot WB, drop away, and fall away rest. I liked them all. They all shot tight groups 20, 30 and 40 yards respectively. When it comes down to noise factors, we all have to figure out how to quiet them down. That's what makes us bowhunters interesting. Thumbs up!

RE: Arrow choice?

This is one of the pics cant find the other one. Thinking about getting a new X-force.

I think the problem with Blazers and WB has to do with the height of the Blazers combined with how stiff they are. Blazers are good vanes but I don't know anyone that can get good groups with Blazers shooting through a WB. I also have problems getting Blazers to stick and prefer the Quickspins but they would look real funny coming out of a WB. They would probably work with the new Octane Hostage Pro rest.

RE: Arrow choice?

NTYMADATER (2/22/2009)
Blazers usually don't shoot very well through a WB. You'd think with less fletch contact they'd be better, but it does'nt seem to be that way always.
I would'nt say my bow is smokin fast. I ran a few thru the chrono after a new string this year right around 290, it's a Diamond Rapture #70 31" draw.
