I love my 17 HMR. Also fun to shoot cans with.
22-250 would be my choice though because of the flat shooting trajectory.
And a 257 Weatherby would also be great where there are deer and yotes.

Look at the 223 or 22-250. Sounds like your distances could be 50 to 300yds.

I think the .270 would be too stout . I have a .17 and a .223 . Those are my calibers of choice . I am looking at a .22-.250 though .

Hey Hamer....My 22-250 is a savage. I think we were talkin bullets not a particular gun that shoots it. Savage is makin rounds now?

I use a 22-250 cause I couldn't pass on the deal at the time. A buddy bought a 220 swift and has got that right on shooting woodchucks out to 400. He loads his own and has a really gfood one worked out. Off the shelf ammo can be a limiting factor for the 220 if your not into reloading.

I use a 223. I would go with either a 223 or 22-250. 17hmr might be a little too lite unless your varmint is prairie dog or rabbit. Nothing against a 270, but if you are hunting coyotes and you want to keep the fur...a 270 will or could destroy the coat.

Agree totally!! Doesnt just have to be a remington either. Savage is really good to. Shot my first buck with one. Just a sweet shootin gun all the way around!!
