.30 cal -- I like anything in .30 cal. Have used a Rem M700 in 30.06 for some time. Love Hornady ammo in 150gr Interbond or BTSP. Interbonds are very accurate. Holds its weight with good expansion. I bought a Tikka T3 Lite last year in .308(I know - It's not a Remington but it has a 1" MOA guarantee and its holds it at 100 yds with the Interbonds). It kicks like a mule due to the light weight but it's manageable. Getting ready to get another .30 cal. Not sure which one, but I am going for another Remington(Hornady ammo if available for the caliber I choose).

Remington 700 BDL in 30-06. 22 years old and still holds 1-1/2 in groups with Hornady 150 gr BTSP. I also have a TikkaT3 Lite in .308 bought new last year. If you haven't guessed it, I'm a 30 cal man. Thinking of passing the Remington to my son. If so, I'll get another Remington 06.

I really like the .270's but my favorite gun is a Marlin .35 lever action. the bullets mic'd out to match a .357 . All I hunt is heavy brush and ticketts. just my .02 cents

I too favor the .284 guns. I have both the 7mm mag and .280. I have not shot the 7mm for a long time now, not because I don't like it but for deer its just a little bit over kill for me. I opt out for the .280. It is a Remington 700 synthetic stock with stainless barrel, top with a Tasco 3.5 x 10 x 50. I hand load all my amunition. I use the 140 gr ballistic tip. This gun is very accurate. I have just about all the calibers you have mentioned on the poll. But with the speed and accuracy and knock down power of the .280 I am never hesitent to pick this gun up.

I use a Remington 700 with a Swift 2.5-10X50 (30mm) scope. I shoot 130 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips that I handload myself.

ALTHOUGH THERE ARE SEVERAL GOOD CALIBERS OUT THERE I HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFULL WITH MY TRUSTY OLE BROWNING A-BOLT 270 FOR 22 YEARS NOW. I WOULD LIKE TO TRY IT IN THE WSM ROUND BECAUSE THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF GOOD REVEIWS ON INCREASED RANGE AND KNOCK DOWN POWER.

I've had a great experience with my Remington model 700 BDL .25-06. in my opinion its a great all around gun, i've used it coyote hunting, deer hunting, and even dropped an elk in his tracks at 300 yards.

If I were gonna buy a gun to hunt deer strictly In the Western states it would be a .257 Weatherby Mag. They have insane muzzle velocity, and shoot extremely flat and carry plenty of energy as well.

Remington 700 BDL chambered in .270 has been my go to weapon of choice during the rifle season for years.

It is difficult to pick a wrong deer caliber, but my favorite is the .25-06 fed with my 100 gr. Partion handloads. I also shoot the .257 & .270 Wby, and a .270 Win.

I will all ways rather use my Bow,but when it comes to my Rifle,I'm in love with the 7mm Rem Mag. Just a core-lock 140 grn. and with the smaller bullet I don't believe it's to much for a deer.
With a well placed shot,they fall fast,with the ability for the range when you need it. I've played with Win. Ammo and other Rem. all the way up to 185 grn's,but theres no getting around the fact that my gun just loves them Core-lock 140 grn's Tight-Tight patterns from 100 yards to 350 yards after long rides in rough 4X4ing with it in a solid case,It's never gone off from the day I got it where I wanted it,I've never tried it past that,but I'm sure with the proper amount of practice it'll make that shot also.

I have a 7mm Rem. Mag 700BDL, I love the gun but I feel that it is too much for deer, its slighty bigger than a .270 but I can hit anything withing 350 yards with it. I have shot several deer with it but I feel like it is too much, I'm thinking about stepping down to a .25-06

Have a couple different ones in the ol'e gun safe. Start with:

30-06 Ruger M77 165gr. corloks 3x9x40 burris w/ ballistic-plex
30-30 Marlin (hand down) from brother-in-law 150gr. win.
243 Rossi 100gr. rem corloks 3x9x50 simmons pro-hunter

last one is for my daughter

Down in S.C. we hunt alot of powerlines and cutovers and big beanfields I have been shooting the same Winchester model 70 in 7mm. for the past 20 yrs. rarely let`s me down.

I don't rifle hunt much now. We only get 1 deer tag in Maine and I have been bowhunting.
But, last deer was a small buck taken with my Uncles (handed down) Remington 742.
Took a Moose with my Dads 7MMMag a couple decades ago. Next up will be me Grandfathers (handed down) Ted Williams Model 100 (.30-.30) with open sights.

I've never actually shot a deer with a rifle I've bought new. Depending on how some things work out, I'll probably end up someday with a Model 700 in 7MM-Mag or 7MM-.08 bought myself.

Depending on where I am hunting(open fields or heavy brush) I use one or the other for my deer hunting.

If I'm setup on the open fields I will use my Remington 721 in 270 winchester using 150 grain handloads.

If I am in the heavy brush or driving, stillhunting or spot and stalk, I will use my Winchester 88 in 308 Winchester using 180 grain handloads. This one has taken more deer for me than the first one

I started hunting with my dad's 30/30 Winchester 94, so that will always have a place in my book. But my favorite would be my Savage 111 in .270 win. w/ a Bushnell 3-9, shooting 150 gr. Super X.
Also can't go wrong with my grandpa's hand me down 30-06 BAR.

My 2 favorite deer guns are my Savage 30.06 with Simmons 3x9 scope for anything over 100 yrds, and for thicker area's or just open sites, i love my Winchester 30-30. It's dead accurate especially with the new hornady rounds for it. Those are my 2 favorite deer rifles/calibers to use

I have shot deer with rifles from the 223 to a 300 Win Mag. The only deer rifle I really need is my model 7 Rem 308. The rest just make the gun cabinet look full, I can't stop buying them.

There has been a lot of great rifles mentioned here!
I can't seem to find anything to top my Springfield Armory Cal.
.30 M-1 Garand loaded with Remington Core-loked 150 gr.
soft point. No scope for a number of reasons; Price mostly.
It shoots really flat at up to 300 yds that I know of
because I haven't found anywhere to safely shoot any farthere.
Recoil is not noticeably bad because of weight:
Rifle approx. 9 pds
Me at 220.
I am looking another 30/06 so I can retire the old warhorse.

My favorite deer rifle is my Browning BAR .308 WIN topped with a Nikon 2-7x32mm. I've had this rifle for a long time and have alot of memories of dropped deer. I run Federal premium 150 grain Nosler ballistic tips thru it most of the time, but have also shot a couple of deer with Remington's Managed Recoil 125 grain Core-Lokt PSP's.

When I hunt the heavier woods I carry my Marlin 336 RC 30-30 WIN with open sights and run Federal Hi-Shok soft point FN's thru it.

If I am hunting the mountains or wide open spaces I use my Browning A-Bolt .300 Ultra mag, topped with a Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x40mm and run Remington Premier Scirocco Bonded 180 grain Swift Scirocco thru it. I might take this gun on a few more local hunts using the new Power Level I ammo from Remington which basically makes it shoot with the same ballistics as a 30-06, the ammo is cheaper and I don't need anything heavier around here for deer.

Looks like top tow are the 30.06 and .270 good choices I must say for those that can use a rifle. I have to travel out of state as commie NJ is bow, shotgun, ML only. Yuk!

Well, you see, this is a thread for favorite "rifle" calibers...I didn't think to include "Artillery" pieces in the poll...

Just kidding, yeah, it will only let you put so many choices in there. I tried to edit it afterwards to include those but it won't let me. Thanks for posting though. The 7mm and 7mm-08 or great calibers for sure (and not to be taken lightly... )

We can not hunt deer here with a rilfe ,but the muzzleloaders of today might as well be one . I have shot deer out to 240 yards with my muzzleloader . If I had a chance to hunt with a rifle it would be ,y 30-06 or 243 . But my favorite rifle is my Savage .223 Tatical. I have killed yotes with it out to 320 yards . SWEEEEETTTTT !!! GUN.

Hello all,

I'm new to the Mossy Oak forum so here goes:

Handgun: .41 mag, 30-30Win. T/C Contender

Rifle: .243M700 Rem.that I have killed a truck load of deer with.
.25-06 Browning A-Bolt, new so I haven't had a chance to hunt with it.
.30-06 M742 Rem. This was my Dads rifle and I always hunt with it several times
during the season. I have taken my biggest buck with this rifle. For a semi-auto
this old rifle (38yrs old) shoots very well. 180gr. RN Core-locks.

I shoot a savage .243, using a simmons scope. and for ammo im shootin win. super x. Its a good lil gun, but i plan on upgrading to a lever action soon

Yeah...It's a bit loud. But it really tames the recoil. The gun is super light with the composite stock, and the barrel cut down to 18", but the recoil is very manageable.
