i would like to know the best way to find
the point at which the bullet comes in contact with the
rifleing in the barrel.from what ive read this is the best way
to determine the C.O.A.L. by backing of.o15 or so from
where the bullet contacts the grooves.....also any reloading info
for a .223 NEF.

I just picked up a new tikka t3 lite stainless in 270win. I can't what to shoot it!
Now I need to find a scope for it. I'm looking at the leupold vx-ii, Nikon monarch,
or the burris fullfield II. Wich one would you get?

Deer Rifle Caliber

I'm just curious what everyone hunts with that is allowed to hunt with a rifle for deer.

Pick your favorite caliber for deer on the poll and then tell us why you like it, who makes it, post a pic if you want, etc. (Examples of why it suits you: Terrain, distance, brush, recoil, accuracy, sentimental, etc)...

Also state what your preference of optics is for that rifle or if you like just iron sights.

To not make it more complicated than necessary, these calibers are to include any WIN, WSM, WSSM, Wby Mag, etc., even though I know they're different. In your description, please specify if you prefer the short mag version.

And post your choice of ammo is for that rifle.

When I built this AR I was looking for a long range one that I could use in competitions and for varmint hunting. It took about 2 months to build because I had a hard time finding some of the parts.

Just bought a BROWNING A-BOLT 7mm. It is going to be my new deer slayer! It has the smoothest trigger pull I have ever felt. Can't wait to zero that BOSS system in, but have to wait until turkey season is over!!!!

i got this rifle(SKS) 7.62x39 at a swap the other day and i'm tryin'to figure out what kind it is. to my understanding they come in ones made in china,germany ond so forth .anyway this gun has a 16 1/2 barrell.totol lenth is 36" . it says on the reciever... made in china by noringo KSI pomona ..i want to get a new stock for it in camo but all the other barrels are 20 1/2 ,,,20 3/8 but nothing this short. one guy told me it was a sniper model,,and another told me it was a paratrooper style.. any one know any thig about this???

Check out this little buster to take to the woods.

This is my Rough Rider .17 HMR 6- shot SA revolver.

It has a 6.5 in. bb and adjustable rear target sight.

I haven't took a varmit with it YET but I know what it

will do to a 2X6 at 40 yds. It's also pretty accurate.

The grips are a little narrow for my taste so I'm carving

out, ( when arther allows ), some new ones. Am I on the right forum topic with this?

This is my Ruger Mark II Competition Target Model .22 Long

Stainless Steel, Bull Barrell, Custom Walnut Grips, Aim Point Red Dot Scope, 10 round clips.

Sighted in at 50 yds!!! I can pick off a tick on a coon's ear out to 25

This is the FUNNEST gun I've ever owned. Had it now for about 12 yrs, and still absolutely love plinking with it!

Anyone else have target pistols to play around with??

Yesterday our late season small game started back up. I had some time in the afternoon for a walk so I figured I'd try after some squirrels. I decided to try out the iron sights of my fathers old Marlin 1897 .22 takedown that was recently given to me by my stepmother. It's been years since it's been fired so on the way out I took a few shots at the burn barrel. I found out the ejector wasn't grabbing the shell properly. I was quite surprised as dad was a gunsmith and would never keep a gun in his safe that wasn't fully functional. Turns out that it just needed a little TLC.

Well, I didn't come home with any squirrels but it felt good taking dad's one Marlin out for a walk. It's also good to know the 100 year old Marlin is still working well.

I don't know about y'all...

Barnes TSX

Much to my surprise I found the Barnes TSX bullet that downed the buck I shot Monday. It was just under the skin on the exit side of the deer. The deer was shot in the shoulder and both were broken up nicely. With as much damage as there was I'm really surprised the deer didn't drop on the spot. He was a good swimmer with his shoulders blown to pieces.

Before I switched to the TSX's I used to use Nosler Ballistic tips. I mentioned in another thread about another buck I had shot from the same stand. Well, that shot was similar to this one and I also found the bullet just under the skin on the exit side. So for comparision on the end results take a look at the picture below. Makes it easy as to what my choice of bullet will be.

Both are 7mm Rem Mag's shot out of the same rifle and both were shoulder shots. The one on the left is a 160 gn Barnes TSX and the right is a 150gn Nosler Ballistic tip. The TSX dropped to 138gn and the Nosler dropped to 63gn after passing through the deer. I'm pretty happy with the weight retention of the TSX's.

Need suggestion's. I own a Ruger Blackhawk in 44 cal., with a 10.5 inch barrel. Since my eye sight is getting worse, I am thinking of mounting a scope. Doe's anyone have a similar set-up? Or doe's anyone have an idea what might work for me. Any suggestion's appreciated. Horseshoer

1911 .22 conversion kit

I've see these 1911 .22 conversion kits are offered by several manufactures. I was just wondering if anyone has used one and what they think of it. Were there any modifications required, what was the ease of installation and did you have any jamming issues.

There is a guy on a local Indiana hunting forum that is selling one.......... I am in the process of inquiring about the price now. He says that only serious 1911 guys would be interested in it..... whatever that means!!

Cabelas Leverevolution Scopes

I've been looking for a relatively cheap scope for my Marlin 336W .30/30. I came across this one which I have been using the Leverevolution Ammo for my gun with good success, I just thought I'd see what y'all thought of it or if anyone has tried the scope, as it's gotten mixed reviews. It seems good to go, I just won't ever spend more than $200 on glass for my guns again. The last $600 scope I had from Leupold ended up being a piece of trash and since then I've been more than happy with Bushnells.

I might end up just buying another Bushnell Elite like I got for my .308 that has been a great scope so far and has rainguard which I put to the test on Thanksgiving morning with great success. Anyway, thanks in advance....

First Deer Rifle

I have never owned a rifle before. It has always been a shotgun or muzzleloader but, after the first of the year when income tax rolls around I was planning on buying one.

I am thinking of 30/30 because I don't shoot long distances. Where I generally hunt it is all hardwoods and swamp so I generally try to keep it short.
I was thinking originally 270 or 308 but I'm told that is overkill for the short distances I shoot and I was also thinking of a 243 because of less recoil but isn't that for long range as well.

Any help would be appreciated! I am usually a short range shooter if that helps.

Honestly I don't remember how long it had been. Either 2 or 3 years since I had picked up the ole .30-06...........Normally shoot 180 grain shells but had some 150s that I bought for the wife and she had never shot so I thought what the heck. Went out and setup a dot at 100 yards sat on the ground and grabbed a stick to be a little steadier. Threw in a shell and boooooommmm......... Dang the dot fell. Thought I missed. Got up there and picked up the dot.......

Guess no adjust was needed................

Has anyone tried this yet? If so, please post your review/feedback...

I bought some 150gr for my .270 today as well as a box of Federal Nosler Partition that I plan on hunting with since it was 15% off.

My uncle is gonna hunt with them this weekend in Georgia in his .30-06 so I'll keep everyone updated. I sure like the design and have heard great things about the round for a while now.

Apparently has been working on the bullet design for the last 15 years so we'll see if it's worth the wait....

Shooting Sticks

I'm looking to get some good shooting sticks. I've got a hiking stick/shooting stick that I picked up at Walmart that works pretty well but just isn't quite as sturdy as I'd like for those true stand up off hand shots. I'm looking to head out West and up to Montana one day and I know I'll definitely need one then. I'm looking to get maybe a bipod deal or something that I can adjust to use in a tree stand or blind or something.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If they had had one in .308, I would've broken down & gotten one...but as it were, my tags, Primos video, & Hunters Specialty mouth hygiene kit suited me just fine. I just wanted to pass this sale on in case anyone is in the market b/c that is a stellar price...

Now, I just need to steer clear of that evil place til hunting season is over...
