I bought 2 TM blankets by Edge Expedite.Lightweight easy to use and not to pricey.

I have 3 homemade ones that I use.

Made them from plywood sheets and 2x4's. At the time I made these, I didn't have the funds to buy a set of 3(I usually have 2 other guys come up every year for the early goose), so I went the cheap route.

I will probably be purchasing a set of 3 this year, as the plywood ones are too heavy to move quickly and they're getting a little worn and rotten from use.

I have a GHG Ground Force and i love it. I'm about 5'11 and have plenty of room. Someone much bigger than myself would still have lots of room. I like to use it for field hunts and for lake shores.
They are definetily the way to go when field hunting ducks and geese. It gets you away from the edges of the field and hiding in areas such as ditches and tall grass which can make the birds a little weary.

I picked up an Avery Power Hunter several years back...it has seen quite a few geese die.

I bought the GHG groundforce for the spring snow goose season, and loved it. I'm glad I went with the better quality blind than the other one they had for 160.

As for room, i'm 5'8" and have plenty of room. Plus it is easy to put up and take down. Thats just my experience though.

If you cannot pack in a smaller foldable blind will work. FA S.U.B blind for packing in or a GHG groundforce. You might not be as comfortable in those since they are smaller.

Your top pick would be a FA Eliminator. Sturdy construction and enough room. The best thing to do is to go to a store that has them and try them out. Make sure you are not trying them when you are wearing a t shirt and shorts since that is not what you will be wearing when you are in it. Good luck

I have few different styles that I have bought over the years. First we had a couple of the avery power hunters and the final approach pro guide. The pro guide is a nice blind but its big, bulky and dosnt transport well. The power hunters are all right and I ve done well with them but they are not very warm if the winds blowing, and they arnt very comfortable, but they are nice if you have limited space because they can fold so flat. We also have a couple of Final approach xlanders, I like those because because they fold up and have nice back pack style straps on them, there comfortable and pretty lite. Before last season we bought 4 of the cabelas interceptor because we were going to be hunting alot of flooded fields and those could go into 8 or so inches of water without buying the mocccassins. Horrible idea, the bottoms of every one of them ripped half way through the season. We had hunted them pretty hard though and got some good use out of them. Cabelas was good though we sent them back and had are money in no time with no questions asked. After we sent those back we orded up 4 blinds from tanglefree. These blinds are the exact same design as the intrerceptors and the ghg groundforce I believe. For the money a way better deal, eventhough we had to buy the moccassins should have just done it from the begining. The tanglefree blinds arnt the best for transporting by walking because they are bigger than the xlanders and they only have a single strap but they are bigger and if you have a quad and trailer they are nicer.

I use the FA Eliminator Pro Guide. It is full frame and there is room for me and the dog in it. If you will be packing it a long way it is definately not the blind you want. The best advice that I can give you it to go to a store and try some of them.

Avery is coming out with an M2 this year. It it supposed to be good.

for the money I like the otter , but for over all performance [especially for a big guy ] , I'm 6'2 255 myself , I would have to go with the GHG.
to answer the other ? , I love mine for feild hunts , pond hunts, riverbeds,lakebeds, where there is not much standing cover. you can even hunt them in water if you get the neo-tub acc. , and yes they work well in up 6-8" of water.

For those who use layout blinds, what do you use, and why?

For those that don't use them, why not?

Any recommendations for somebody who is a 6' tall, bigger guy looking to get one before this fall?
