Where I come from the only hen mallards that are shot are mistakes. Most of the really offensive shows have been filmed in Canada where the limit on hens is much more liberal. But to me there is no excuse for not picking out the drakes or at least attempting to do so. Each hen shot results in many more birds never being hatched. The most disturbing thing about it is these birds are being shot by and with professional guides. I would think they if any would understand the importance of shooting drakes and letting the hens fly.

I'll hold off until another day about the sky busting ive seen by these so called "professionals". I'm sure all those cripples wasting away in the marsh are easy to forget when your unloading a box of shells a day and getting some Doctor and his buddies to pay you big bucks to take them with you.

Whats on your lanyard?????

I was wondering what everyone has hanging on your lanyards???

For me its a Buck Gardner buck brush, spitfire, SS1 & canada hammer. It's a different type of hunt and one a lot of waterfowlers won't bother with. It's about waiting for one shot when there aren't many ducks around, or late in the season when they've been thoroughly educated. An extra or two, or even a limit wouldn't ruin the hunt should the chance present itself, but it's not the focus of the hunt. It's about that one duck and that one shot.

Runaway boat and a pair of teal

I killed these 2 blue wings on Priest yesterday evening and also put 4 canada's in the decoys but season is over on them so they got the pass for now

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTT.........
what lead up to that is a lil embarassing

I got home and found out I was eating alone due to a shopping trip I was not going on so I decided to go watch the sunset on the last day of woodieteal season on BEEUTIEFUL Percy Priest lake on a creek just down from the Swamper farm . I get there and back the boat up and hook up my one man boat loading strap like I have done for years and years on about 5 different boats I have owned and I back'er in and keep waiting on the cord to tighten so I can get out and pull the boat up on the shore and park. WELL......i see no rope between the truck and the boat and it then hits me that my boat is trying to RUNNOFT. NOBODY is to be seen on the lake so nobody to holler to so I quickly park the truck, toss all my pocket crap in the floor board, run down the ramp, strip to my Fruit of the Looms and into the cool fall water I go. The harder I swim the further the boat drifts away. I swam I bet 150 yards and I am no Mike Phelps when it comes to swimming so when I get to it I am a tad tard and can't get in the boat so I hang there for a while then try to swim it back and fight the wind so I rest some more and FINALLY get my leg over the side and I roll in. This flat bottom has some high sides unlike my other one that was at home and it's easily accessible lower sides. Well I get in and get the motor started and get back to the bank and hop out real quick cause STILL nobody is around and I get my shirt on and just as I put my feet thru the legs of my pants and I bend over to pull them up a guy pulls up and gives me this WTH! look and I just casually pull them up, toss my shoes in the boat and off I go to hunt barefooted and covered in a nice green slime BUT hey! I got me some ducks and watched the sun go down on yet another exciting hunt with DDGS!

I am just glad I had on whitey tighteys instead of my MAN and Myth or Tazmanian devil boxers I got for Christmas!

First Rain of the year...

I love when the wheather changes this early in the Sacramento Valley in Ca.

How has everybodys opener been? If its here yet.

Here in Northeastern California we opened up Oct. 11. We got drawn for lower klamah refuge and ended up shootin three limits of specs in about 15 minutes the first day. I heard from another hunter that there was an estimated 40,000 specs on the refuge for the opener. The second day me and my brother got are limits of specs around 830. It was a little slower but it was nice, it ended a little fast the first day. Typical refuge hunting the second day, one group set up about 60 yards behind us and were sky scraping anything that would come close. It was getting frustrating. Not to mention when my brother and I were trying to get to the same spot we were in the first day, a group of guys beat us there by sending a sprinter through the field. Its all right though we got are geese and couple of ducks. Got the honkers on a river by my house. Heres a couple of pics, dont know how to get them to show up with my message just as a attachment.
Last weekend hunt

Here are a few pics from last weekend, we managed to scratch a few.

Chet Jones

Here is my latest good day

This is two Sundays ago this Sunday.

5 shots 4 birds, the geese where at 55 yards each, one shot,I've downed 7 this season all ready but these are the only two I've gotten.I'd shot'em up pretty good but they would make to the next blind where they got hammered so bad I didn't want them,so I've started shooting center left/center right, and snapping their wings. one dropped 30 yards and the other 20 yards from my blind,My Cheasy hit the water before they did
Greg

Duck Hunting

Let me start by saying I think All Mossy Oak camo is awesome. I have been away at college and haven't really had a chance to do any duck hunting this season and it was eating away at me. On my drive into town on Thursday night I spotted hundreds of divers on the refuge north of town. Things were looking good! The weather turned for the best as well, with high winds and heavy snow. I received a call from a friend from high school and we decided to head to our favorite lake, which was usually good for a couple birds at least. We were lucky it was deer hunting, as we were the only ones on the water, and after fine tuning our diver/puddler spread, the sun began to rise. In just minutes 3 birds that I identified as ringbills came skimming inches above the water. They were taken care of with ease(yea I know they are hens ) After wading out the get them it didnt take long until a pair of buffleheads entered our spread. We picked out the drake and down he went. Next a pair of hoodies came, the drake was dropped but dove and never reappeared. I was very frustrated to say the least. The action slowed and we enjoyed some breakfast, until the sky became filled with birds once again. With some coaxing from the PH-1 a pair of gaddys came in perfectly and down they went. They day seemed to be going much better than planned, and then the largest flock of mallards I have ever seen over water came from behind us, wings cupped, and hooking back toward our spread. We looked at each other in awe and no shots were called, the flock swung away unscathed! Haha, an empty feeling came over both of us, but was quickly overcome by happiness when a flock of 5 mallards, 4 greenies came right in. They were all dropped and the hen was passed on. We ended up with 11 birds(12 including that hoody) and it was one of the funner hunts I have been on around Southern MN.

Me and my friend Andrew with the birds.

Black cloud to a bufflehead at 10 yards....ugh!

Me with the green, can it get any better?
