Tie/crimp a big treble hook onto some 60# + wire. Hook the wire to a sturdy tree branch. For bait, you can gut a turkey, hog, or whatever animal and leave the guts on top of the treble hook, or simply bait up a small chicken or something. Apparently this has been effective.

2. Buy a bunch of foam rubber and soak it in bacon or some other type of grease. The yotes will eat the foam and not be able to digest it and kick over.

So post up your ideas....and lets send some yotes back to their maker.

breaking beagles from deer

does any one have a good solid way of breaking beagles,or any hound, from running
deer.they will run the hell out of rabbits but just cant stop them from running deer if they come across one.........have tried breaking scents...and several head thumpings.thinking of trying an
e-collar....any tips would be great.

Who Squirrel Hunts

So who all squirrel hunts here?

COYOTE MISADVENTURES

.

<a href="http://www.predatorxtreme.com/breakingnews.asp?NewsID=126" target=_"blank" class="SmlLinks">http://www.predatorxtreme.com/breakingnews.asp?NewsID=126

Coyote Misadventures Nationwide

Ed Park
3/6/2008

Our favorite predator keeps getting in the news as they learn that they can easily outsmart those two-legged, clothes-wearing predators we call humans.

Coyotes are only one of a very few species that has increased its numbers and range along with increases in our human population, and have become a growing problem in many urban areas as they dine on pets, such as cats and small dogs.

Populations of coyotes continue soaring in our eastern states and officials are scrambling to find solutions to some of the problems being caused. The Board of Supervisors of Bedford County, Virginia, had been considering a $50 bounty on coyotes after increases in complaints from citizens about livestock losses, but on February 27 decided against a bounty but in favor of a predator prevention education program. The Virginia State Code authorizes individual counties to create bounties by ordinance, and several counties already have such bounties on coyotes. For example, Campbell County pays $50 per coyote.

In Yellowstone National Park a female coyote stole a woman’s pack at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge. Family members got the pack back by throwing snowballs at the coyote. The coyote ran off, but circled back and attacked the lady. Bites to her leg punctured the skin. Within 15 minutes a Yellowstone Association employee, who was skiing nearby, was bitten on the leg by the same coyote. The skier hit the coyote with a ski pole. A park ranger tracked the pesky coyote to a safe area, then shot it. Tests for rabies were negative.

In Gulf Shores, Alabama, people in residential areas hear coyotes every night, and parents will not allow their children out at night. Residents call the howling “terrifying” and small children are scared. In Orange Beach, Alabama, officials have posted “Coyote Crossing” signs along parts of Canal Road.

This past winter a coyote began harassing skiers at the Copper Mountain ski area in Colorado. Its actions got more and more aggressive – approaching people with teeth bared. The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) was finally called when the coyote nipped at a skier’s boot, grabbed at a child’s jacket, bit the board of a snowboarder who had fallen, and was driven off as it approached a three-year-old child DOW officers arrived, the ski area was shut down, and the officers located and shot the coyote. Tests for disease are being conducted.

A DOW spokesman said the coyote’s actions suggested the animal had become habituated to humans and looked to them as a source of food. Perhaps skiers riding lifts were dropping food to it, or local residents had been feeding it. As the DOW spokesman said, when people feed animals such as this coyote, they think they are helping, but in too many cases it results in that animal’s death.

San Francisco’s city parks are experiencing a ballooning coyote population and the resulting problems, and city officials are trying to figure out how to handle those problems without raising the ire of the city’s animal-loving human population. The coyotes are showing actions typical of habituated animals. People unthinkingly – and illegally – toss bits of food to the “cute coyotes.” The coyotes begin associating humans with food, get aggressive in their begging, are fed more, get more demanding and nip at the hands that feed them – and end up getting removed and killed. City animal-care workers are encouraging people to scare the coyotes without hurting them – an action they call “vexing” – such as yelling, but not throwing rocks.

In all urban areas having coyote problems, officials issue lists of things not to do, and to do – such as don’t leave pet food or bird feeders outside overnight or allow pets to roam free, and do store garbage in critter-proof containers and keep all pets indoors at night. Too many people ignore any advice, so the coyote problems increase. Along with that, some people scream to leave the coyote alone while others scream to exterminate them.

The bottom line – which is no consolation for those suffering losses from coyotes – came from Curtis Herbert, a wildlife manager for the Arizona Game and Fish Department. He said, “There will always be coyotes. Eradication’s just not the answer. That’s been proven time and time again.”

rabbit count so far!

well so far this year ive taken 15 rabbits with no ruined meat!! i cant balieve this eyar there are sooo many rabbits out. how many have you guys gotten so far this year???

ELECTRONIC PREDATOR CALLER

I'm thinking of trying an electronic caller for the coyotes here............ but don't want to pay a fortune for one either.

Anyone know of a "good" E-Call that is reasonably priced?

HELP!

pheasents

this is a pheasent hunt i went on a few weeks back. 7 guys limits by 3 every day. a very good hunt.

WENT YOTIE HUNTIN' TODAY

Well, me and Romer finally got a chance to go yotie hunting this morning. I figure it sounded like a good time to hang with the crew for some laughs and fellowship, so I tagged along.

It was at a neat little club that does 6 day deer hunts and turkey hunts as well as the pheasant/chukar/bobwhite put and shoots. Had some real nice deer on the walls too.

The Group:

We set up the throwers when we got there to warm up on a few clays, after all, we done paid for these birds, can't be lettin' em go off to the wild as coyote food. I unleash the Benelli prepared to wreak havoc on some clay birds and find myself with little or no breakage. I was feeling ill...I mean, it been a while but daggone!

Now I see it, I got an IC in there and this hand had me feedin' the M1 #9 shot! So I proceeded to redeem myself by smoking them birds about 10' from the trap! I was lettin' em get out too far for that sand I was shootin at em.

We go out to the field and the guide lets the dogs out. We do the meet and greet with the guide and assure him we ain't gonna shoot his dogs and off we go.

First patch, the dogs were up ahead a flush a chukar. I watch that mug fly off and think, "well dang, if them hounds is nothing more than flushers, he can take that junk back to the rig!"

Ah, but then they settle in and get a nice point on a pheasant.

We all took turns after that with the shots and backing each other up. On my first shot my mechanics were still in the trap mode...when that bird got shoulder high I fired and all we could see was feathers! It was a nice shot I tell ya! Just kinda had a bit of picking when it came to cleaning him.

The shot:
Me and my backup on the final "prized bird". See the smoke coming out of the Benelli!

So, it was a fun day of hanging in the outdoors, cutting up and having a good time. One thing this club did was put out one real dark pheasant for each group. These things were beautiful. Hold them up to the sun and blues, purples, reds...really pretty. They were almost black in color when they got up and flew and well, our guy up missed, but we marked him. So at the end we trounced over to see if we could get another crack at him. Sure enough, the dogs pointed him. Another guy flushed him and I was primary gun. I was letting the bird get out a bit so as to not mutilate him...and then I fired. Almost at the same time, my back-up fired (didn't want to see him get away again....LOL). We both hit that mug and he dropped like a sack of rocks.

A good time was had, even if it was chicken from a can...

Me and my BIL with our "harvest"

Hilltophunters Rabbit(kinda)

Me & Hilltophunter went out with my dogs for a few hours. The snow was deep so my dad decided to stay at the house and relax. So off I went with the old faithful 835 with a modified choke in search of some squirrels/bunnies. I decided to try this one thick spot of rhododendron, berry bushes and rose bushes for rabbits. I was literally crawling on my hands and knees to get through this stuff when I finally got a BIG one to flush. It was too thick for a shot and it was too far away so I held off. I went to circle around to get a shot at it and as I was circling, another popped out so I shot that one. No pics of me and the rabbit because I was alone and when I got back to the house it was too dark for pics.

But here's the one pic of it:

It was a good sized cottontail, maybe 1 1/2 pounds.

Good start...

Looks like these fellas have a good spot...can't wait for my truck bed to look like this... ;D

Ever see a fox shoot a rifle?

Too funny

http://www.outdooroutlook.com/forum/showthread.php?t=153

Johnnie

Chukar Partridge

Took this photo of the elusive chukar partridge as he popped out to warm his feathers...

And another

This year is driving me crazy. We froze a bird and have been training her with it, and she's doing great with the training now that she knows the difference between a ball and a bird.

Crow from past Saturday

Here's a few pics of a crow I shot last Saturday.. Was walking in the woods with the 20 ga, heard some crows flying over so I called to them with my voice. I waited for one to land in a tree because I had the full choke in the gun for turkey's so once one landed in the tree, I shot. And here was the result..

Who says crows don't strut? They so have a tailfan.

When does YOUR....

Squirrel season start?

Anybody here enjoy chasing those tree rats?

I use squirrel season to do a little scouting for deer season, other than that, I'm not big squirrel hunter.

But I do carry my Ruger Mark II Competition Target Model, with a red dot Aim Point scope on it........ just in case I do run across some little squirrelies ~ They do eat purdy goood

Grouse!

Today was the opener of grouse and partridge season. The weather this morning was iffy, but it cleared off. We went out, and did a whole lot of walking and pretty much no shooting for a long time. Finally, about 5:30 in the day, we start seeing them by the side of the road. Our basic method here is, drive along until you see a grouse near the road, get out, shoot. I think we can afford to do that for how much walking we had to do and no birds. Anyway, the new Uplander is working great. Got some great shots on the fly. Woulda had our limit if I hadnt forgot about the safety once...

Oh, and before all that, I snuck some geese and nailed a good 13lb-er. Not a bad day.

Sorry, no pics!!!

Huntin Wabbits

I gotta say rabbits are tough little critters!!! Every time they’d walk up the wooden stairwell the possum would hiss and growl at them and their dachshund was gettin’ ticked off and wanting to attack it, which wasn’t good because the possum was twice as big as Max, the killer Dachsund.

I was sick this weekend so I couldn’t get over there until Monday evening about 4pm. I tried to figure out how I was gonna kill it since I couldn’t use a gun in the city limits. I decided on using a replica civil war saber that I use in civil war reenactments. It didn’t take long, I went up, quarried my game and poked it right in the gut and twisted and poked it again through the lung area. The possum immediately died and I drug it out from under the stairwell with it on the end of my sword.

Next, it was time for the proper Christian burial. I dug a hole and was about to lay Mr. Possum to rest, when this mangled possum jumps up and starts running around. WTF? Dumbfounded after the butchering I gave this poor creature, I chased it with the shovel around the whole yard a few times, at which time I noticed my aunt’s entire neighborhood staring at me swinging a shovel and yelling at the mangled possum. LOL It was hilarious!!! Finally got close and whacked his head off with the shovel and laid him to rest. I’m pretty sure it’d dead now!!! Boy, that was a lot of fun!!!!
What the fox ate

Well, heard some screaming last nigh and this morining in the middle of the road was this

My lawn mower found some other parts so they must have nailed it in front and dragged the big parts to the road.
hunting beagles for sale?

I've been looking for a trained beagle for sale since one of my dogs has past away recently.
