The first pic is before season and the second shows him on the bed of the truck, he weighed 195 dressed and would have went around 140 or so but sometime during season he broke a brow tine. Got him the last day of blackpowder season. Had 2 bobcats under my tree most of the afternoon, had coyotes bouncing around on the hillside behind me. Its a hunt ill never forget! The second pic is my phone so the quality sucks.

DEER CONTEST ENTRY THREAD

This thread is for posting the photo of your deer....... to enter the deer contest for points.

GOOD LUCK ALL!

Dead deer and coyotess

Since this spring i have found 3 deer that have been taken by coyotes....my buddy actually seeing one of the deer being chased and taken down by 2 at one time. With this being said i am going on a coyote hunting "Mission" after the season ends and was wondering about a few things. Where is the best place to set up for coyotes to call? Field, brush, open woods? And what calls do they most likely repsond to? Lastly, is it better to hunt them at night? or in the morning/evenvin? Any help on this would be great!

16 Points total

Yep, 8 one one deer last year and one this year. He sent me a text saying he shot a buck and was going to wait 20 minutes because he knew he put a great shot on it. Not 5 minutes later he heard twigs snapping and leaves crunching and he seen another guy walking in the direction the deer ran. (the deer ran on to different property). so he got down right away and was going to ask the guy for permission to go on his property but he was gone and the blood trail on the deer mysteriously ended. So he we went to the property owners house and got permission to go on the property. What we found out is where my dad lost blood, the buck fell and ran into a tree then took a 90 degree turn. We found a spot with blood and hair everywhere and then noticed something that made our stomachs turn. Drag marks. 2 other guys dragged away his deer and stole it. we found laytex gloves with blood all over them and the drag marks led to a 4 wheel trail. This was only about an hour after he shot the deer. It was gone. Why would you want a deer if you didnt shoot it. I dont understand some people, it makes me sick.

1st White tail Weekend

Hey there everyone,

I am heading to Rankin County, MS for 2.5 days of hunting this upcoming weekend. This was in another area

Wind shifted yesterday to ESE and I took my climber back to the area the cow scared the buck away a week ago.

Hunted there ysterday evening and passed on a doe. Had another doe walk behind me at dark and passed on her.

Got in climber 1.5 hours before daylight. nothing all morning. Weather change with rain coming meant I was gonna be there all day till dark.

9:30 about 1500 black birds came in....... hit the ground the whooom... fly up and relight 40 yards away, It was deafening. They finally went across the creek and opposite of where this buck was bedding.

They finally left the area and 10 minutes after it got quiet, here he came along the the creek. He was going into a thicket when I did a grunt snort wheeze. He turned in the thick and came towards me.

He turned quartering away in some thick stuff at 80 yards, I picked a small hole in the thicket, and I slammed one home with the BAR 30.06!

He ran about 30 yards and dropped like a ton of bricks. I watched him for 5 minutes with no movement. Was sending out some texts when I looked up and he was crawling/hobbling off! He went about 30 feet and went down.

I could not see him good to shoot again so I had to lengthen the safety strap on my harness, lean out backwards in the climber and could only see his stomach. Put one in him again. He crawled 5 feet and that was it.

First shot caught his liver and the back of his left lung on the way out.

Main frame 8 with a 1" kicker at the base.

5 inch circ. on the mainbeams.

main beams 20 inches each.

G-1 and G2's are all six inches.

17 inch inside

191 pounds.

14 points for my Team...........

Meat is at vines for sausage..... washing clothes at home tonight then heading back tomorrow.

Will hunt through Jan 3rd....... after one with spliy G-1's and will weigh about 230 and score around 160.

drives

Quick Question....Ill be hunting about 500 acres this wweekend and i was wondering if it would be bad to drive and then hunt the rest of the day. I was planning on huning in the morning with my muzzleloader and then doing drives throuhg bedding during the middle of the day and then sitting in the fields at sundown with the muzzleloader. Do yo uthink the the deer will be too spooked to come out or not? Al;so what is an effective way of driving land? Just walk through the woods talking or blowing a crow call...I dont want to sppok them just get them up on their feet.

Still a few big ones left

A good friend of mine stopped by my house last night on his way to the taxidermist to see if I wanted to see his buck. I'm always up for seeing a buck, and I knew if he stopped, it must be a nice one. I wasn't prepared for what he had though. He killed this bruiser last Thursday, December 17th here in southern Indiana with a muzzleloader. He said it was running with 2 other big bucks. This guy had the most bone, but the number two buck was a 10 ptr with a spread approaching 24". This guy has 15 points, an 18" spread, multiple forks, and grosses 204". I'm super happy for my buddy. As they say, pictures don't do it justice.

This Morning's Hunt

Right at the break of daylight this morning, it started to snow. There is an a city named grosse ile. Its an island off the coast and it is a heave populated, expensive place to live. Hunting is not allowed on this island. There are patches of woods here and there and swampy areas on the coast. There are deer everywhere, big deer, as you could imaigne if there is no hunting. This video was taken november 27 of this year. I dont know the person recording but it is pretty amazing. They got tangled up and one buck ended up drowning the other one, and then the police had to shoot the second one. Kind of a sad ending for these two mature bucks. Take a look!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8poksS8vP8

Hey Teams

Been real busy for a lot of weeks. Another minute or two later, another doe appears. Then notice another doe across the field come out. It's get'n good!

About 12-15 minutes after the first sighting, I hear something coming behind me on the left, in the loud leaves. I lower my binos, slowly turn enough to see what's coming.............. DANG IT, friggin yote! Head'n towards where the deer are.

The yote got a little downwind, then became quite alarmed (at apprx 30yds). Turned and "hopped" away out of sight. I turned to look back at the deer in the field, which I could no longer see/locate..... when I heard more steps behind me to my right this time.... a second yote!!

She was less than 25 yds when I shot, quartering to me slightly, steep angle. It basically field dressed her INSTANTLY! Those Powerbelt Hollow Points did a number on her I can tell ya!

She then rolled down the hill right under me.
Because of the carnage, I'll show this pic...

ONE LESS YOTE!

My 11/29/09 buck

Ok well, this is all over due but better late than never...

On 11/29/09 I shot a nice sized 2.5 year old 6 point. I went hunting with my buddies stepdad 2 towns over at a spot he had permission to hunt on. We got all set up in the trees about a half hour before sunrise. I remember the conditions being absolutely perfect. 40 degrees and virtually no wind. At first light I caught movement about 80 yards in front of me. Picked up the binos and saw it to be a 14" tall cowhorn spike. I saw some movement of a big body behind him but couldn't tell what it was because it disappeared behind a briar thicket. So about 15 minutes goes by and I look up and see 3, no wait 5, wait 7, hold on, 8 does headed my way. I had a doe tag that my dad had transferred to me for the WMU so I was ready to take another doe given the chance. So these 8 does came filing in towards me without a shot. They get next to my tree but I have the tops of some saplings in my way with only a few basketball sized pockets to shoot through. Which of course, not one of the deer was standing in one of these openings. The lead doe picked me out up in the tree holding my bow as I was sillouhetted against the sky. I was about 25' up. She started to lead the deer away and one of the bigger does was a little late on realizing that the herd was working their way up the hill. So when she turned around and saw the others nearly 40 yards away she started walking quickly to catch up en route to one of my openings. I drew my bow and sure enough she walked into an opening I ranged earlier at 30 yards. BAHHH!!! She froze. I dumped the string and the arrow was flying right on target then went upward over her back for no reason. She took off running up the hill unscathed. Then as it got lighter out I noticed a twig in that opening I didnt see in the morning light. Turns out the twig was at about 19 yards and the deer was at 30 yards. So after I took it all in, I realized a few things that went wrong.
1) When I ranged the opening, I had the brush mode activated on my rangefinder so it ranged right past the twig anyway.
2) My 30 yard pin did not have any obstructions behind it but my 20 yard pin lined up perfect with it at full draw. So the twig at 19 yards obstructed my "perfect" shot at 30 yards. I read an article about this a few years ago but never had it happen to me. This is something all archers should understand in my opinion.

So we sat til about 10:00AM without seeing another deer. My buddys stepdad said that he never sat there and saw so few deer. So he said that they must be bedded on a ridge a few hundred yards away. So off for a walk we went. And sure enough, to make a long story short, we walked up on a 6 point. He stood there quartering towards us at what we estimated on the fly to be 40 yards. So I drew my bow, settled the 40 yard pin on him and let the Slick Trick tipped GoldTip fly. THWACK! It ate him up. He ran 75-80 yards and fell over. Upon getting up to him we learned that he was a 7 point but a 6 point. He had what was the beginnings of a G3 on his left side but it was only 3/8" long so it doesn't really count as a point.

In this pic you can see the hole the Slick Trick cut on a quartering to shot:

12/3/09 Doe

On 12/3/09 I shot another doe. A Sensible Gun Registration Plan That Will Work

Vermont State Rep. Fred Maslack has read the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, as well as Vermont 's own Constitution very carefully, and his strict interpretation of these documents is popping some eyeballs in New England and elsewhere.

Maslack recently proposed a bill to register "non-gun-owners" and require them to pay a $500 fee to the state. Thus Vermont would become the first state to require a permit for the luxury of going about unarmed and assess a fee of $500 for the privilege of not owning a gun.

Maslack read the "militia" phrase of the Second Amendment as not only affirming the right of the individual citizen to bear arms, but as a clear mandate to do so. He believes that universal gun ownership was advocated by the Framers of the Constitution as an antidote to a "monopoly of force" by the government as well as criminals.

Vermont 's constitution states explicitly that "the people have a right to bear arms for the defense of themselves and the State" and those persons who are "conscientiously scrupulous of bearing arms" shall be required to "pay such equivalent." Clearly, says Maslack, Vermonters have a constitutional obligation to arm themselves, so that they are capable of responding to
"any situation that may arise."

Under the bill, adults who choose not to own a firearm would be required to register their name, address, Social Security Number, and driver's license number with the state. "There is a legitimate government interest in knowing who is not prepared to defend the state should they be asked to do so," Maslack says.

Vermont already boasts a high rate of gun ownership along with the least restrictive laws of any state .. it's currently the only state that allows a citizen to carry a concealed firearm without a permit. This combination of plenty of guns and few laws regulating them has resulted in a crime rate that is the third lowest in the nation.

" America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the *******s."

This makes sense! There is no reason why gun owners should have to pay taxes to support police protection for people not wanting to own guns. Let them contribute their fair share and pay their own way.” bagel77

Team TWO Check in

I am here gang.....lets get racking up some points!

Saw 5 at the lease yesterday.

Will be in a tree with my bow next saturday!

TEAM ONE - check in

What's up fellas!?!

Let's get this show on the road guys, and let the slaying begin!!

Indiana Whitetail Hunt

Check out the new video of Hunt Colorado's Muzzleloader/Whitetail deer hunt on public land in Southern Indiana.(Keep in mind the deer dont get much bigger than a large dog there, but you can clean up and harvest 6-8 deer depending on which county you hunt in....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWqTJp_OMvY .please rate it! I grew up not knowing anyone who hunted...so I didn't hunt, but wanted to learn. I bought my first rifle at age 18 and tought myself how to shoot. In the 22 years that have past, I have only hunted 5 times. All of these hunts were day hunts with a guide for exotics. All of these hunts were really fun and had me bringing home game but really didn't teach me anything about hunting on my own. I had thought about public land but feel that I am too inexperienced and would not want to ruin someone elses hunt due to my lack of knowledge. I also have thought about a week long deer hunt with an outfitter in N. Florida or S. Georgia. But, I'm not really sure how to tell which outfitters are the good ones. Also, would that prepare me further for a solo hunt?

My goal is to become educated and experienced enough to raise my kids in a hunting/outdoor activity houshold, teach them and hope that they have the same passion that I did growing up, but have someone to show them the way.

Any suggestions, comments, advice would be appreciated.

A great day in the woods...

3 deer were killed in woods where these deer were all around acorns.

I killed the 9 point and the doe.
9 point- 17 1/4" spread, 170 lbs
doe- 130 lbs
My brother killed the 8 point

The picture of the tree is where I shot him and that was a fresh rub.
As you can tell, we gave our cart a good load to handle.
My son also came up to the camp to get in on some pics. I had a buck that dwarfed this one come at the decoy, he was broadside at 25 yards, and I couldn't get a shot. He then bedded 100 yards away, for over an hour. right at dark a doe cruised through, and the bigger buck picked her up. She was bringing him right to me, but the deke spooked her. She went around the deke, and they and they passed at about 40 yards. The doe headed right to me, but the big boy charged up the hill. I heard some thrashing around, and this smaller one comes running down the hill, nose to the ground, at the doe. 8 yards, straight in front of me. I let the Wasp Boss Bullet eat!!! he went about 120 yards at a full out run.

He is a 7 pointer and weighed 170 on the gambrel. Last night when skinning him, found a puncture wound from an antler about 8 inches below my entrance wound, that pierced the chest cavity, and another on his throat that just missed the esophagus.. Both wounds looked as fresh as my arrow wound, by the clotting of the blood under the skin. Thinking the thrashing around I heard might have been the 8pt pushing him around.

After a 125yd tough bloodtrail...

Relief!!!...

Elbows Deep!!! :o)))

Happiness!!!...

Head ready for the 'dermist....

Holy Backstrap!!!

South wind success

There's this set-up I don't get to hunt very often cause it's best with a South wind. Well, Friday was one of evenings that had the perfect wind. I ended up getting away from work a half hour late but that wasn't going to stop my from hitting it. Things were fairly slow and this was the first deer to come pass. He came in for a nice 15 yards shot and only made it a few more yards before expiring. What a perfect way to start the weekend!

KY,IN,OH,MI Mossy Oak Whitetail Prostaff

Welcome to the obession! On my way into the woods, I didn't bump or see a single deer which is very odd for back there. I got set up by 5:30AM and began my sit til daylight. Daylight rolled around and I didn't see a single deer. Usually I can see a few or have some underneath me just as it gets light out. 6:45 rolls around and I'm absolutely disappointed. Not a single deer. Then as I'm sitting there in self misery and pity, I catch movement up on the hill. It looked like a deer leg and a tail flick. Sure enough it was. 4 does make their way into my view but headed to my right down the trail 15 yards away. I draw the bow as they are on their way down the hill. I only had a small window to shoot through. So I sat there holding the bow at full draw in this window waiting for the lead doe to walk through it. First doe walks through the window, " Meh!", she doesn't stop. Second doe, " Meh!", doesn't stop either. Third doe, " BAH!", again, doesn't stop. Fourth doe, "BAAAAAAAAAAHHH!" doesn't stop. So all four of them wouldn't stop for me and they all run down to the stream bed. Then 2 minutes later they turn around and come running right back up towards me. Two hang up on the other side of the railroad bed, two cross and pass by me at 30 yards, but go running right back up the hill where they came from not even a minute earlier. Then 15 seconds or so later one doe comes running back down. I draw the bow and yell at her "HEY!" she freezes up and starts looking around broadside at 19 yards. THWACK! The Slick Trick tipped GoldTip ate her up real good. She went 30 yards and tipped over. Right about then is when I noticed the other two does that hung up were on their way back across. The big doe watched the one I just shot pile up and walked right up to it sniffing it wondering why it wouldn't get up. So I nocked another arrow anticipating a potential shot at another deer. A lone doe ended up coming off the top and back down to the other deer, two does and the dead one. They end up feeding on past me at a mere 10 yards. It actually turned out to be two does and a button buck. The button at one point actually tried sniffing up the does tail and she promptly turned around and gave him a whooping. But anyway, a big doe comes out in front of me at 10 yards. It was somewhat of a steep shot for me because I was 18 feet up and she was almost underneath me, but I felt I had a good enough angle into her vital area to take the shot. She was walking on by at 10 yards when I drew my bow and said " Meh!" She froze up and arrow #2 was on its way. THWACK! She kicked her hind legs and ran about 15 yards. She then walked another 10, button buck in tow and laid down right in front of me at 35 yards. I was trying to nock another arrow to get another shot in her because it did look a bit far back but just as I was getting ready to do that, a 6 point came down off the hill and started chasing her around. Bleeding and all. My entrance was high as expected and the exit was low. I called home, got my brothers to come out with the Cart of Death to help me take care of Doe #1.
Once I climbed down with my Summit, a spike meandered on by me with his nose to the ground following the trail the does were all just on. I filmed him walking by. I recovered arrow #2 first because it was closest to the tree. It was all brown and smelled bad. Immediately I thought stomach and was sickened right away. Arrow #1 was coated in bright red blood with bubbles as expected. Double lung hit. Went over to doe #1 which turned out to be a doe fawn from this year. Didn't matter to me. It's meat. I decided to take care of the dead one and get her hung up. I was going to give the second doe a few hours to expire. I made some calls and texts and everyone said to give her about an hour and she would be dead. I ended up treating my brothers to breakfast for helping me out and they both said they would come back out later and help me find the other one. We went right to where I said she bedded down and found blood right away. It wasn't much, but it was blood. We followed blood all the way up to the thick swampy part of the property.
I looked at this one tree and it had blood and hair on it. Then over the ledge and guess who lay at the bottom of the cliff? You guessed it! Doe #2. Dead as could be. I was soooo relieved at finding her. It was awesome. High fives all around between us. Even filmed the recovery. She was a big old doe and I believe she was the one I've been trying to kill all year because she was the only one with a button buck. In total, she only went about 100-120 yards. Probably because I let her go and didn't push her right after the shot. I dressed her right where she died and we dragged her up to take a ride in the Cart of Death. Upon dressing her, I found out I didn't touch the stomach with the arrow. Stomach was perfectly preserved. I got every bit of the liver and a piece of the lungs. How would that make my arrow brown though and smell?
It was so awesome to accomplish my first big game double. I shot the first one at 6:55AM and the other at 7:05AM. Exactly 10 minutes apart from eachother. I was unable to get any in the field pics other than the few with my cell because my dad took the digital camera upstate with him. So the only in the field pics I have are off my cell. I did end up going to my buddies house later Saturday night and had his step dad take pics in the bed of the truck with his camera. But I'm not in camo or anything as you'll see.

Doe #1 in the Cart of Death:

One of doe #1's lungs with the perfect Slick Trick X through it:

Doe #2 right where we found her:

The two of them hanging in the garage together:

I love this pic..
