One pot meal. Cut up rabbit, flour it and brown it. Layer it in dutch oven and pour in a can of cream of celery soup. Add a few spuds, some onion and carrots if you got um. Season and cook. I was using charcole .. 12 under and 10 on top. But you could do the same at 325 - 350 for an hour plus.

RE: Rabbit Recipe

I'd like to know what the outcome was and how that bunny was cooked.

My favorite recipe for cottontails is:

Quarter rabbit and dredge pieces in seasoned flour. I use Lowry's Seasoned Salt to taste.
Brown the rabbit pieces in butter or oil.

Slice up a large onion and add it to a dutch oven along with a bunch of sliced up mushrooms. Place rabbit pieces over the onions, then cover with beef broth. Bring to boil, then simmer for 2-3 hours until rabbit is tender and ready to fall off the bone. At the end, stir in about a cup of sour cream. Serve over noodles or mashed taters.

RE: Rabbit Recipe

try this ,it's good 1/4 cup flour,,1 tsp salt,1/4 tsp pepper,1 rabbit cut into quarters,1/4 olive oil,1 can of beer(flavor of choice) combineflour, salt, pepper in a gallon plastic bags. shake in pieces of rabbit until pieces are covered evenly. ..... brown both sides in oil in heavy skillet,,reduce heat add beer and cook slowly 40 to 50 until tender. for chrisp crust uncover pan last 15 to 20 minutes. then enjoy

RE: Rabbit Recipe

coyote (11/18/2007)
fried rabbits hard to beat just cut em up dredge in flourand pepper put em in fry pan untill golgen brown make gravy out of whats left in frypan and serve over biscotts daNG IM HUN GRY

you're making ME hungry, too, and I've eaten supper already!

RE: Rabbit Recipe

I like the spaghetti sauce crock pot idea. They never had much money, but had a good sized family and we always went there for a Sunday feed while Pawpaw was still alive. Pawpaw was a catfishin', rabbit and squirrel hunting fiend. If Pawpaw had not got my dad to take me out hunting I might not be where I am today. After Pawpaw passed in 1978, I had to push my dad into hunting everytime we went. Luckily one of my dad's good friends was also an avid squirrel and rabbit getter. Jim was always there to help me convince dad to go, and Jim would happily take me if dad couldn't have made it.

My Nannie could straight up cook some rabbit, squirrel, and catfish. She passed that on to my mom (their daughter-in-law). Combine that with my mom being raised by a single mother 100% hungarian and grandma can cook now. I am here to tell you, my grandma can make you a sandwich and you come away having just eaten the best ham sandwich in your life! I don't know how she does it, but she makes the most regular meals come to life.

So, there are some key dishes that my mom can throw down, rabbit is one such meal.

RE: Rabbit Recipe

Oh yeah..my grandma makes me squirrel and dumplins all the time...
