I do lurk through the forums from time to time. Just wanted to share my buck I got on Monday the 28th.

The night before the opening day of rifle season, I have the worst night of sleep ever! I was lucky to get three hours max. Been fighting this problem for several weeks. But I get up at 3AM, get my shower and load up the truck. Dad gets here with the coffee and Micky D's sandwiches.

As dawn fast approaches, I am trying so hard to stay awake. Around 6:50AM I hear my first shot, this perks me up! Finally after the archery season shows me no deer, 8:50AM six does run past, now I am really perked up! But I am looking for that buck, no buck in particular, just a buck! Call dad on the radio, he seen a few does and a small buck. I am thinking maybe things might turn around, nope! 12 noon, no deer since, thinking about packing it in for the day. 2PM I have everything packed, then two more does show up, ok, Ill stay till four now...

Sitting there debating about telling my father about leaving early on the first day of PA's rifle opener. I hear a crack of a branch, which sounded like something stepped on it! I hear leaves being walked on, but see nothing! Darn squirrels I am thinking!

But then I see a rack moving, but this is not just any rack! ITS HUGE!!!! I noticed two other deer, but never made them out. At this point, my full attention is on this buck! He disappears! I am frantically looking! I found him, and he is walking towards me, cool! Then he stops dead in his tracks looking right at me about 80 yards! He drops his head and swings it right up at me! I am now thinking he knows something is not right! He makes a step up towards the top of the mountain, I squeezed the trigger, threading my bullet between the two trees into his chest. He fly's back down which in turn I followed another shot. Thinking he is down, I grabbed my pack, reload the mag just in case. Once I get within 30-40 yards of him he jumps up, but cant get nowhere, I dispatched him with one more shot!

Oh one more thing! My father has this saying, "You Never Know" Those three words mean more to me now than ever!!!

Here he is!!! Un-official score is 166 5/8.

Whats UP???

Been awhile.

Been fighting with doctors and killing pigs!

We picked up 880 acres in Mississippi that was covered in pigs and the club is letting us hunt them all summer to thin them down.

To date we have dropped 25 russian pigs.

Last weekend we stacked up 7.

I love being able to hunt them at nnight with our 30.06 rifles over bait!

We have set up with night vision monoculars, ND3 laser lights and also 200+ lumen tactical lights on our rifles.

Next year I will have a night vision scope on one my rifles.

Hope everyone has been doing well!

Welcome thedisciple.

Thanks for joining and welcome to the forum. CLAASSEN

Sunday, February 13, 2011- Celebrating 60 Days Smoke free

My Story: Have you ever been in solitary confinement for your Sins? Or made believe you were camping or took a mini soul searching vacation in your mind to just….. ‘Slow down’? A Winter Walkabout? Great Escape? Or have you ever recovered from Cancer? I have and still am…

On December 15th, 2010, I came home from the Cancer Wing of Blessing Hospital in Quincy. At least I think it was the Cancer Wing, still not sure to this day the “whole story” of that particular wonderful facility. They saved my life, well, them, my personal physician Dr. Waheed from the Quincy Medical Group in Mt. Sterling office, my Urologist, Dr. Owenga from Quincy Medical Group in Quincy and his urologist colleague, and of course, ME & my persistent researching. Not to mention the third step-in gynecologist, because my original gynecologist had a death in the family, my new-found friend whom I didn’t meet till after he had his hands inside me in a later surgery, gynecologist Dr. DeGreef which I have to say just for the record is a great name for a gynecologist! Anyway Dr. DeGreef has been practicing women’s health for over 30 years… his philosophy? Listen to women!

Anyway, back to my story…. That surgery was an eye-opener, and the road to a new beginning. A new Birthday (in my mind anyway), for that day, I quit smoking cold turkey after trying several times over the course of 20+ years. And that is the day I found out for sure, no doubts, I had Cancer. I was so sick from anesthesia and not to mention a stent that was the size of a hot poker inside me to hold open my urethra tube… (That’s a whole other story)! Anyway, I had the word, “Donna, it isn’t kidney stones, it IS Cancer”. It is stage one or so they thought inside the left kidney. I was scheduled for surgery on January 14th, 2011 to remove the kidney, the urethra tube, a partial piece of the bladder where the tube meets it. And just because I was scared and needed them out anyway (…another story), I scheduled a gynecologist to remove both ovaries and tubes not knowing even if I had a right ovary. 3 surgeons would perform these surgeries. Tensions were high for a solid month. Two weeks of sickness because of the stent and a month of sheer terror, sleepless nights and ‘solitary confinement’ in my mind. Was it survival mode? Not just yet it wasn’t; although if you count laying on the floor that December 15th, 2010 throwing my guts up and sweating and just plain SICK… throwing my cigarettes in the trash and throwing up on them, what a perfect end to a perfect day to the perfect addiction .

It could have been solitary confinement that night or survival mode the night when I also found GOD. No one knows this yet, but several nights before this December day from Hell, I had been researching my dilemma. I have always been a researcher at heart, searching for the ‘answers’. I always researched answers to family history, to family medical mysteries, to just plain anything. Well, the Internet has been one of the greatest inventions, (wasn’t that my generation?) since sliced cheese or the post me note. Anyway, one night, late I was online, FaceBooking (Yahooing years before) and researching as I have done for a long time. I plugged in my symptoms using Bing I believe, and read some website and posted these possible answers. Endometriosis, bladder or kidney infections or stones, and last… yah, Cancer. I started to sweat. I knew but denied because my Mom just went through bladder cancer and survived. But I knew, even before waiting for the urine sample my physician sent to the super duper pee lab. So, here we go again, I thought, let’s start with the first, Endometriosis, which my Mom had when I was growing up. Went to my regular gynecologist again about my ovaries and she tested my urine too, just in case. Results were the same; blood in the urine. Go back to your regular doctor. Ok, more doctors, more tests and more money to spend and with no insurance, this is going hurt I thought. Never knowing how much it was truly going to cost as I have been a chronic back pain sufferer for years. I mean Years of doctors, money, new treatments, old treatments, drugs, massage therapies, acupuncture, x-rays & CAT scans… too many to list, neurologists, back specialists, chiropractors, & the list keeps going. Since back, I think, to 1997. No one, nowhere, could give me answers or help me. Just give me drugs or say and I quote from one particular doctor… “It’s all in your head”. Well! Who will have the last say on this subject? I will! Anyway, there again… back to my story….

Oh yes, I found GOD. I believe it may have been that night I did late night researching or couple days following; I am not sure without looking it up. Did she just say found GOD? Crazy you say? NO. Scared yes, so scared that I literally JUMPED out of bed and got up to write. Shaking so bad at what I thought was a dream, a very real very vivid dream I should say! I saw the brightest light I have ever seen in my life. Was it a car passing by or just a figment of my imagination? Or was it my “wake up you are ‘going to’ die moment?” No, I know what it was; it was my Wake up and smell the coffee day; the day that suddenly the Bible I tried to read for years suddenly made sense. I am telling you this today because it was faith, family and a whole lot of prayers that helped me get to where I am today

My Pops, thinks I’m ‘crazy’ … again… for he has been following me on Facebook daily for months and my “family” thinks I need hormones, (*another story). Well, I am on hormones to satisfy them but I have to admit, it IS helping with the hot flashes, haven’t had one in weeks. I am clearing my head, could be hormones or it could be the fact I moved out to my Pops place for more… solitary confinement while he is gone on his “winter walkabout” for I couldn’t rest at my husband’s home. I am not on drugs to clear my head like I was put on back in 1997 from that neurologist who said… “It’s all in your head”. Hmmpf! ******, that there drug needs to be off the market! (*yep you guessed it…Another story) But I have to say once again, it could be the hormones, but is it? Who knows? I have been doing massive cleaning, here at Pop’s place (don’t tell) ha, ha, it’s a secret! And, I have all my projects I couldn’t get done, couldn’t concentrate on and boy, am I “organizing” my thoughts! My youngest Son told me I should write about my recent experiences, little did he know I have been writing about it for some time now. Even with all the ciaos that occurs daily, like the washer drain exploding water everywhere, and you know, all or nothing me, a full capacity load and part of the rinse cycle before I caught it and the next day the furnace acting up. Just sticking in here…Thank you to all the good neighbors, family for their support! Amen!

Oh yes, the ciaos…I call it PICKLES, you know if you know me, and follow me on Facebook that I have had many, many pickle chaotic episodes in the last few months. It’s my way of brainstorming, of organizing of getting things done. I am truly sorry that I had to move out to do this, to get myself well, to RECOVER in peace and quiet and solitude. Boy does that statement bring up another point. Remember my research on my family history? Great Grandpa Claassen, whose court divorce I came across that read that he was divorced by a second wide, unbeknownst to any of my very large family because he was a “man of violent passions” lol! Some say I have the Claassen Curse, well, that’s my term for dementia, Alzheimer’s and just plain older-age-stress-forget-what-you-are-doing-sickness. This is where the research from what Dr. DeGreef told me the day he put me on hormones, and the real reason I was scared into taking synthetic hormones despite the fact of my personal breast cancer risk. It all depends on which “Hospital” you believe, Mayo’s or Springfield whether or not I have pre-cancerous cells in my 1/8th eaten with biopsy test, don’t-know-if-they-got-it-all-right-breast. There is research out now that suggests that the longer you have your hormones the longer you have your wits. Lol! Who knew?! I guess the future remains to be seen there. Eh?

Anyway, wow, if you are still reading maybe I do have a shot at this writing thing. And maybe I do have a shot of starting yet another Idea! Relay for Life, here I come! With a team I will put together and ideas for my cause. Here I come, Relay 4 Life, all 125 pounds of me, which is 30 pounds less than what I started at this “cancerous” time, by the way, it was stage 2, in the kidney itself and the lining. Today I am Kidney Cancer free, but will have to be checked with scans every 3 months for a year or two as this cancer comes back in one of every two patients. I am praying for me and my Mom we are NOT those 1 or 2 people.

Currently me, my two dogs, Jewlz and Miss Maggie Mae are doing well, great in fact. Calm and relaxed and figuring out what’s what, getting things done and coming up with more new ideas! It could just be the ARTIST in me. They say brilliance is crazy, well that’s what Jewlz, my prized jewelry boxer dog told me after I dressed her in her debut clothing idea for upcoming fundraiser ideas! I do not know what tomorrow will bring but I know for a fact, I will survive another day because I have the Big Guy on my side! Recovering is hard, knowing you will survive and go one to fight another battle is priceless. For I am a Renal Cell Cancer Survivor represented by the color purple, My mom Sandy Armstrong also, and a demented, stressed out person just as most Americans today represented by the color hunter orange,...And let’s see, oh Yah! A wait-and-see-if-I-have-it Breast Cancer Researcher represented by the color HOT pink!

Rocket Purple, Hot Pink & Hunter Orange & CAMO. It’s my cause & My Story.

P.S. these facts are true to my knowledge or could be I just dreamed the whole thing, JUST WISHING…aka… early onset Alzheimer’s? Lol! Catch me there…. At the upcoming rallies, for me and those whom I had the pleasure of knowing who didn’t survive, and anyone “surviving” wearing their own “colors”. What will you bring in your survival pack IF YOU HAD TO GO ON A MISSIONARY WALKABOUT?

Update: As of Today, February 25, 2011, I am STILL SMOKE & CANCER FREE! Praise GOD they are groovy! These colors are the colors of the rainbow. The Brown is the pot of Gold at the end of it!

Oh! One more thing... Just a wee prayer... Help me build or find a gun cabinet that my team HUNT 4 OUR CURE can fundraise with. A SURVIVOR style TEXAS HOLDEM' POKER TOURNAMENT for my 45th Birthday Party on April 9th. The Court further found that the experts agreed that the Scent Lok clothing "cannot eliminate odor, even when new."

The Court held that all advertisements that used the words "odor-eliminating technology," "odor-eliminating clothing," "eliminates all types of odor," "odor elimination," "remove all odor," "complete scent elimination," "scent-free," "works on 100% of your scent 100% of the time," "all human scent," "odor is eradicated," and graphics demonstrating that human odor cannot escape the carbon-embedded fabric are all false statements as a matter of law.

In addition, the Court found claims that the Scent Lok clothing could be "reactivated" to "like new" or "pristine" condition to be false as a matter of law.

An injunction barring ALS/Scent Lok, Cabela's and Gander Mountain from "further deceptive practices" will be issued.

With that ruling, claims against the companies could move to trial.

The case began in 2007 when Minnesota hunters Mike Buetow, Gary Steven Richardson, Jr, Joe Rohrbach, Jeff Brosi and Dennis Deeb, filed suit against ALS, Cabela's, Cabela's Wholesale and Gander Mountain, claiming their odor controlling clothing failed to perform as advertised.

Their complaint alleged that the clothing did not "eliminate" odor, and could not be "reactivated or regenerated in a household (clothes) dryer after the clothing has become saturated with odors".

During the course of the lawsuit, scientists from both sides worked to prove-or disprove-the claims.

As you can imagine, the results disagreed in all but one key area: both plaintiff's and defendant's attorneys and scientists agreed that carbon-embedded clothing cannot eliminate 100% of a hunter's odor.

In this case "eliminate" was the key decision point- the court ruled that the word "eliminate" meant "a complete removal" the same way a claim to remove roaches from a home would mean "all roaches" not just some.

Some of the ads, however, went on to use phrases such as "complete scent elimination" "scent free" "works on 100% of your scent (100% of the time)" and "odor is eradicated".

In the court's eyes, those claims were false and misleading - beyond any test of reasonableness.

Other ads, however, used enough language to qualify the claims they made. The Court tossed a claim for a declaratory judgement from the hunters on those advertisements.

So, you might ask, do the findings in the case prove that clothing really can't mask human scent?

Short answer, no. What it case has done is reiterate and reinforce the application of common sense to advertising messages - and consumer purchases.

Creepy PM's!

I have a few of these in my inbox from someone I don't know with some strange subject lines.

I won't open them.

It comes from:

"By Anonymous"

How is that happening??????

Hammer Built Target Stand

Hey guys, great to be a part of the Mossy Oak community. In a subpoena issued to Scent Blocker by Scentlok on July 15, 2010 to force Scent Blocker to make available all their sealed information and testing to the public. This is interesting in that Scentlok sealed all their depositions and testing from the public during their trial but now when it’s to their advantage they want the public to know. Interesting.(Attached is page 10 of the subpoena where Scentlok states that the public’s right to know overcomes Scent Blockers right to seal their testimony and testing)

The only way for the public will learn the truth is through the release of testing details and deposition testimony. Through the few details that have been released we have learned that inspite of Scentlok and Scent Blocker’s claims the court has found them guilty of not telling the truth.

They have been hiding from the public what they have known and have made million’s. Now with this new court case with the two companies now fighting among themselves the public should finally see the truth about carbon. Just the basic fact already revealed that there is only 23% coverage of carbon covering that is sealed to the fabric with adhesive makes Scentlok effective in doing anything to control human odor as Sentlok’s own expert testified under oath.”

Mossy Oak new Logo?

Saw these yesterday at Gander Mountain.
