What a great morning...no pics at this time, sorry, I'll get them later.
Got out early and had some time to relax, at sun up I could hear toms all over in the trees, heard some fly down and then heard a hen making some noise...about 50 yds away I hear a tom going nuts.
As normal they want nothing to do with me...in the mean time I'm checking on the deer about 30 yds behind me and I turn back and I see 2 hens running away! No toms...then a few min later another hen appears and walks around, still no toms. I hear them off in another field and they won't make a peep when I call.
I pack it up and head to work early. Will post pics later if I can.
Keep after it!

Two questions, are your decoys out where the birds can see them when still on the roost? And, have you tried going with no decoys?
This seems to be a good tip I read a while back. You do not want the birds looking at dekes while they are still on roost...seems to make em real wary...
I have been lucky enough to get a bird the last few years. I am smart enough to know that it was due more to luck than my skill, but 2 of three were killed without any decoys out...
This years bird was loking hard for that hen (me calling) and broke all the rules by coming up hill and crossing through a patch of timber to get to where he heard the hen. When he couldn't see her, he just kept coming.

Yeah, if I've set up decoys and can't get a gobbler into them for a couple of hunts, I'll go without a decoy for a sit or two, which is what I did when I took my gobbler this year. I've noticed that that will keep them guessing and get them even more curious to come out from their hens when you're calling.
Either way, good luck bud!

| I like to move around alot, walk & call, run & gun or whatever you call it. Thats one of the things I like most about turkey hunting. Its almost the exact opposite of deer hunting where you usually sit. I hardly ever use a decoy. Just wont carry them around, its just too much. If that birds not coming, I am moving on him. If I bump him so what go find another. I dont know how you bow hunters do it, carrying a blind, decoys & bow, plus calls & stuff. I say try w/o the dekes & see if you do better. Mike

Hilltophunter (5/6/2008) Those Toms have your digits my friend. Belly crawl in as close as you can and dont call at all and get them on the pass by.
Who's gonna film that? I'm guessin it would be a money maker!
But good luck Nerd, You're due
