have any of you guys noticed alot of ducks staying south this year??
I was set up on a turkey hunt today about 75 yards from the edge of a slew here on the lake , and about daybreak there were about 100-200 ducks landing in that slew [ mallards , gadwalls, teal , wigeons ]. we usually have a few mallards hang around , but never this many different kinds .
I guess maybe it was the extreme weather across the midwest and ohio valley a few weeks ago that kept em pinned down here.
don't get me wrong , I'm glad they're here but I worry about they're nest success here due to predators and fire ants.
this is an Obsession ,and I thank GOD for it.

Here in the north i seems like either there is more geese or else less of them going south every year.
We have a ton of geese all year long

There's still a bunch of ducks around here too. There's a beaver swamp behind my apartment that is loaded with greenheads right now. There are ton's of geese around also.

yeah here too , I would want to believe they are just late migrators but I've already seen some gadwalls with ducklings swimming around , still seeing a ton of mallards and wigeons too.
this is an Obsession ,and I thank GOD for it.

I was back at the swamp yesterday and low and behold a flock of blue wingers buzzed by and lite about 60 yrds from me. That's the first time I had seen any around there. Usually there is nothing but mallards and geese. So far I've seen gadwalls, mallards, geese, bluebills, ringers and the blue wingers back there. Just hope they stick around till Oct. If they are back there now, I'm sure they aren't going any where now.
