A lot of the problem with getting them white, is that people don't use the DAWN dishwashing liquid when boiling the skull. It is a MUST to get all the grease and oils out of the skull in order to whiten it.
Be sure to use Peroxide/Bleach/water mixture for the whitening process.... soak up to 24 hrs...... and then soak in plain water afterwards. Do this as many times as it takes to get it as white as you want it. Follow the steps that I have outlined (and pinned) at the top of this forum page for the full process.
Fanatic, you have some great looking racks there... some very nice bucks!! Thanks for sharing those with us!
Here is the latest Euro that I did, using the steps mentioned above........... http://www.mossyoak.com/forum/Topic267-33-1.aspx

Here is a tip for whitening;
Go to your healthfood store and buy the 10%+ peroxide instead of the 3% you get at the grocery store.
BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL with this stuff and don't get it on the antlers!
Best way to apply is with a paint brush, just watch out for splatter. Goggles and gloves are a must!

| Bleach will break down the bone after 10 years or so. If you want them really white go to a hair dresser supply store and by 40 volume hydrogen peroxide and a powder called basic white (which I figured out after ordering this stuff from Tax. Supply cat. for twice as much). Follow the directions on the basic white paint it on the skull do not get it on the antlers or your skin. Also you want to use it in a fairly ventilated place the fumes are a little stout. I have got probably 8 deer skulls and a hog skull european mounted so I have plenty of time to practice. Bowbo is right about the Dawn soap being very important for removing the oils. There are better ways (acetone) but none cleaner or safer. I will try to get some pictures of my skulls one of these days.
